You make a good point. I pick Vazquez thus far though because nobody really gave him a chance in the rematch and he fought through some vicious cuts to force the knockout. I was going on a thus far basis, because Mayweather/Hatton and Cotto/Mosley haven't happened yet.

However, if Cotto is able to crush Mosley in convincing fashion I believe he should be fighter of the year. But if by some slight chance Hatton beats Mayweather, fighter of the year goes to him by default having beaten the best fighter in the world right now, in his prime. Especially if he KO's him.

But if Pavlik if he knocks Taylor out, guess what..
I believe he will and I'm betting on it. A case could certainly be made for Pavlik if that happens, having knocked out Miranda and Taylor both in the same year when nobody gave him so much as a second thought.

its too early and too close to tell who would be fighter of the year.

there are so many fights to be seen before the end of the year.

        we still have:
pavlik vs. taylor (big fight for taylor to prove to the fans he's for real...same goes for pavlik)
mayweather v. hatton. if hatton wins that fight he will be in the top 3 for fighter of the year easily and may run away with it.
we have the holyfield fight...if he could win a title it would be huge.
        mosely v. cotto.

we have to see the outcomes of all these fights and the actual fight itself and then determine it but i dont think it could be decided till after hatton v. mayweather (or if any other big fight gets set up for after that...dec 8th and janurary 1st is plenty of time to get another good fight)

if mayweather beats hatton and cotto beats mosley, its a toss up between them. Cotto has had three fights this year. That puts him in the running just by winning 3 out of 3 against world class oppposition and yes urkal isnt that great but he is world class. if hatton wins, he may be. if mosley wins, he may be. it just depends on how they win this last fight of the year.

If Mayweather beats Hatton then in my opinion he gets fight of the year unanimously. But as of now my candidates are and victories are in parantheses
              1.Mayweather(De La Hoya)
              2.Cotto(Judah, Urkal)
              3.Hatton(Castillo, Urango)
              4.Vazquez(Marquez)
5.Pavlik(Miranda and whoever else he beat)

That why im saying at least give Cotto consideration he fought 3 times this year not many fighters fought 3 times this year and yes it will all come down to those 2 fights. I just dont know why everybody is bashing on Cotto just because he beat up a washed up Zab Judah. Watch a lot of these Cotto haters start jumping on the Cotto bandwagon if he beats Mosley. Its definently a tough teset but look how mnay people turned down Mosley this year. Cotto is a true professional to the sprt just goes out there and do his job and takes on whoever is out there regardess of how it is

We could but they probably wouldnt get that much consideration like Gomez and Clottey. When Gomez beat Gatti he just wasnt the same and yes i know Clottey was the last fighter to fight Corrales(R.I.P) but he I dont think he doesnt get that much consideration because thats the only big name he fought same way as Gomez and Williams could be a sleeper pick for fighter of the year I forgot about those names thanks
