    MSG Gate = 2 million
    Sponsors = 1 million

    For a fight that will gross 20 million plus in revenues, you would EXPECT that the purses should be more than 10 mil. The undercard purses will be low. For a fight of this magnitude, there's no need to juice the undercard. Am I missing something here?? Top Rank is gonna make a bundle off this fight. UNLESS, they don't believe that this fight can do 350-400K.

    See, guys. This is why PBF left Arum and became a promotional free agent. And this is why he ignored that "offer" for $ 8 million from Margarito.
    That's a guarantee of 4 million, some fighters get a purse number but not guaranteed. Hopkins and Wright only got between 3-3.5 million each for their fight so Cotto is actually getting more.

      By contrast, Miguel Cotto has sold under 300K in his TWO par-per-view cards.
      He did well considering the first ppv was a Top Rank production and he was facing a guy only known to people on the East Coast. And when he fought Judah he was fighting a guy who was 0-3 coming in.

        Yes, I agree. But from reading the article, it seems as if he has a lower ceiling... or 'cap".

        I took the statement to mean that his total take won't exceed five mil. Isn't that how you saw it?

        Hop/Wink are in a bit of a different situation b/c they (well, BH at least) were promotional partners with a vested interest. Hop will make money in GBP equity. Cotto is not an owner in TR.

          Who were the "best" at MW/SMW/LHW that Jones didn't fight? Please help me understand.
          Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Gerald McClellan (I know, I know, they were friends), Darius Michalczewski, Steve Collins, Henry Maske, Vassily Jirov, Michael Nunn, Joe Calzaghe...

          These guys aren't all top-tier, P4P guys, don't get me wrong, but you cannot deny that these guys are alot better on the whole than the non-Hopkins/Toney opponents Roy faced from 94-2004.

            The 100K for Malignaggi was completely excusable. That fight was not a HBOPPV and it competed with Hopkins-Tarver. Personally, I bought the Cotto fight.

            But the Judah fight doing sub-200K was a disappointment. Especially the paucity of West Coast and Southern buys.

              Good stuff, but Cotto will be closer after Nov.10. In his three PPV cards after the Mosley fight, he will be close to 1 million, not that far behind PBF. Cotto-Mosley could do 500k possibly...

                  I dunno about 500K. Historical data would make that number seem unlikely. Vargas (2006) still had a bigger fanbase than Cotto. And Vargas-Mosley did low 400's.

                  500K gets into the Trinidad or Delahoya territory. My prediction for Mosley-Cotto is high 300s. It may have been more if only more people had seen the Judah fight.

                  Please remember that Shane fought Collazo in a pretty empty house. I don't think that SSM is the draw that he may have been.

                    Wow, cotto deserving more than mayweather is one of the most assinine statements I have heard in a while. Who has cotto beat to garner an amount even close to mayweathers?
