In many of peoples minds Muhammad Ali is the greatest of all time. He had amazing matches with liston, frazer & foreman and beat the best there was in his era! In the other hand you have Mike Tyson who steam rolled through everyone in the heavyweight division in the 1980's. His opponents might not of been as good as Ali's but Tyson took on anyone and mostly KO'd them. Tysons best performance was against Spinks when he brutally destroyed him im 90 seconds. Ali had the best movement ever to been seen by a heavyweight and had great boxing skills. Tyson had the most power and best head movement ever to been seen by a heavyweight. Its a hard fight to call but i would have to give it to Tyson. The way he fought in the 80's nobody could touch him also Tyson was 10 times better than Frazer and he put Ali down so Tyson would have KO'd him!
Ali's greatest weapon was his mind, he had guys beat before they even entered the ring, As much as i like tyson, he has never been the most stable individual and he could not mentally handle Ali, Ali would frustrate and ultimately beat Tyson fairly easily (especially if over 15 rnds).
As far as in their primes - IMO we never saw Ali in his prime, his best years were spent behind bars or suspened, that 2-3 year period would have probably seen the best of Ali. Ask the Tyson question against any other heavyweight in history bar maybe Louis and he rolls over most
You cant compare George and Mike there two tottally different fighters, George was a powerful big guy with more aggression then aim, and Tyson was a little stationary man that could bob n weave like the wind blows and also was more accurate then powerful... He would have went straight into Ali who would be jabbing and throwing that right fade away straight that Tyson would have avoided as soon as it left, leaving enough time for a devastating left hook or uppercut that would have put Ali's lights out.... You gotts also put size into play watch a few vid Tyson does better when his fighting guys around 62' 6'3 because they where always tall enogh that he could get low come straight in with Hooks and because of there frames either eat them up to the body or the face! Id say Tyson get the KO in 5
Ali wasn't stopped until he fought Larry Holmes and was well out of his prime. He fought some of the biggest punchers in heavyweight history (far bigger punchers than Tyson) and got hit clean by them. There is nothing in the career of either Tyson or Ali that would suggest that Tyson would stand a chance of knocking Muhammad out, especially not in five rounds.

Yeah i agree totally.
And to say Tyson would roll over every other heavyweight apart from Joe lois is complete nonsense.

Ali himself said tyson would have won,
I think it would be a pickem fight, too close to call,
If anyone could beat a prime tyson it was Ali,
But ill go with tyson late late stoppage, possible decison, simply because i dont think ali could keep tyson off him for the full 12 rounds without taking clean shots.
Ali with ease, he would be to slick for tyson and if anything he could use the rope-a-dope. Tyson was great but other than joe louis ali was the greatest of all time.
A solid argument could be made for either fighter. The Ali/Frazier trilogy is the closest example of the outcome in the proposed scenario. On the one hand, it's reasonable to envision Tyson winning as did Frazier in the first fight. On the other hand, it's also reasonable to envision the Ali stopping Tyson as he did Frazier in Manila.
I sincerely believe that if Ali and Tyson fought each other at their respective peaks, and they only fought once, either could win. If they fought an even number of times, it would be a tie; if they fought an uneven number of times, either could have the edge. The victory(ies) by either, if by decision, could be split or unnanimous; if by knockout, technical or outright.
Theirs would be a dream classic matchup between the boxer-puncher (Ali) vs. the power-punching brawler (Tyson). Again, the best example of such a match-up is the Ali/Frazier showdowns.
