I'm going to be pulling stuff from another thread and posting it here, but basically I'm looking closely at the things Hatton has said regarding Mayweather and other fighters for that matter since beating Tszyu in 2005 and up until now. The point is to prove how Hatton turned down Mayweather and basically ran from him before deciding to finally cash out this year. You'll notice he says he only has a few years left when it's convenient, but when asked why he doesn't fight other big name champions, his people say he is still young and wants to come along slowly. Let's see how this unfolds.

HATTON WANTS MAYWEATHER OR COTTO, NOT TSZYU REMATCH
Ricky Hatton's trainer Billy Graham has dismissed the prospect of a rematch against Kostya Tszyu.
Hatton defeated the former world light-welterweight champion to claim his IBF title over 11 brutal rounds in Manchester in June.
And the Australian stated recently that if he decides to fight on he would seek a second big-money meeting with the new champion.
But Graham said any rematch chances are slight, with Hatton's team preferring to project him towards future super-fights against the likes of Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto.
Graham said: "As far as I am concerned a rematch is pointless because Ricky has stopped Kostya and we would be going over old ground.
"I am looking at the bigger picture and now it is all about building Ricky's career and his name.
"Mayweather is the biggest fight out there in boxing right now, it is the fight both Ricky and I want and that is the one we want to build up to."
Hatton does not yet have a date or venue for the first defence of his IBF title but he is expected to return in Manchester before the end of the year.
Meanwhile Hatton is set to accept a role as one of the Amateur Boxing Association's new part-time consultants.
Hatton and triple Olympic gold medallist Mario Kindelan are among those who have been approached to assist the amateur body with regional coaching schemes over the next two years.
Richie Woodhall, who resigned yesterday as the ABA's high performance manager, has also agreed to assume a consultancy role.
# Matthew Macklin impressed on his American debut last night with a third round stoppage win over Leo Laudat in Atlantic City.
The Birmingham-based Irishman stopped Laudat on his feet to improve his professional record to 14-1 and is now targeting a shot at British champion Jamie Moore.
Macklin said: "I am a great friend of Jamie's but that is a fight I want and I believe I will beat him.
"I felt the need to go to America to re-establish myself and now it is all about making progress and seeking out that British title fight."
....
All right, what we get from this is Hatton is pursuing a fight with Cotto or Mayweather, who he still hasn't fought two years later. They do say they are "projecting" him in that direction, but he's only now arriving. They also say he needs to come to America, but lately there was talks of Hatton saying Mayweather had to come to him.
This is going to be FUN -
If re-establishing yourself in America is barely beating Collazo (who?), dominating Urango (who?) and an old Castillo, then consider that boy re-established and ready to go back to Britain having accomplished something!Comment

I thought after Hatton signed to fight Mayweather you would stop with ur nonsense...
Cause remember all that **** you talked... about Hatton not havin the balls to sign the fight, and how much u dspised him because the fight was never gonna happen... yea....Comment

I don't respect him for taking this fight now that he's ready to cash out. That doesn't take balls. Look at Barrera. Do you think he's brave for cashing out against Pacquiao? Hell no.
This thread is in response to a challenge from a Hatton fan and there is money in it for me, which he won't pay, but at least he'll know he should.Comment

And please don't respond with claims about how Mayweather contradicts himself all the time about being in it for the money or the glory or whatever because that has no bearing on this argument. This is about Hatton not fighting Mayweather back then and why I lost respect for him. Nothing more, nothing less.Comment

Let's keep it rolling with another classic:
MW: If you come through the Maussa fight without injury, what’s next? Taking care of your mandatories or another big fight?
RH: Well, in this game you’re obliged to fight your mandatory or you lose your belt. I’d like to fight the big names, the Floyd Mayweather’s, the Miguel Cotto’s, but if I have to keep my belt against the number one contender first, that’s what I’ll have to do. After that, the light-welterweight division has got lots of fighters to fight. You’ve got Mayweather, Cotto, Gatti, any of those would be big fights for me.
MW: OK, I’ll give you a name, you tell me what you think of them and if the fight with you could happen.
RH: OK.
MW: Miguel Cotto?
RH: Yeah, there’s a good chance that can happen. Obviously it would have to be with HBO, but that’s not a problem. Miguel Cotto is one of the best talents in world boxing and I’d love that fight. In his recent couple of fights he hasn’t looked as sparkling, and he’s certainly not invincible, but it’s a good 50/50 match.
MW: Kostya Tszyu?
RH: A rematch is always a possibility. I believe he’ll be moving up to welterweight to fight Zab Judah, so perhaps I could go to welterweight to fight him if he wins that. The thing is, though, I’m just 27 years old, so I’m coming into prime. I could better my performance if I fought him again, whereas it would be more difficult for him to be any better.
MW: Jose Luis Castillo?
RH: Well, it’s obviously difficult for him to make lightweight, so a fight at my weight would be a classic, a real toe-to-toe grueller! The thing with this fight is that I can box very well and change if I need to, but with Castillo what you see is what you get. There are different sides to me to use if I need to, but he can only fight the one way. It would be very exciting though.
MW: Junior Witter?
RH: I would LOVE to fight him. There’s been so much crap thrown about, not just from him, but from the people who say I’ve ducked him. He’s been calling me out all this time, but in a way I’ve shown him up by winning the title from a legend like Tszyu, whilst he’s looked beatable in his last few fights. If he could capture a title belt, then he’d bring something to the table. Right now I’m on a level where I’m fighting guys like Kostya Tszyu and Carlos Maussa, but he’s got to get to that level first.
MW: And the big one...Floyd Mayweather. Do you think he’ll stay at welterweight after his 147lb debut with Sharmba Mitchell?
RH: I don’t know. He’s not the biggest even at light-welter let alone up at welterweight, so it would make sense for him to stay at this weight with me for now.
MW: Has he fought anyone with your strength and power yet?
RH: No, not with my strength and power. I don’t like to criticise someone like Floyd Mayweather, because he’s done so much. Y’know, he’s the pound-for-pound number one, so I don’t like to run him down because that’s not my style. He looked absolutely amazing when he beat Gatti, even though Gatti fought the wrong fight completely. I will just say that I really want the fight and I hope it happens. He says his style is a nightmare for me, but my style is a nightmare for him, too.
RH: I’d say about three years before I retire, really. That’s if I get the fights I want, because you never know in boxing. I guess it’s down to how I feel. As long as I’m fighting well and hungry, then I’ll keep fighting. I’ll continue until it’s too hard to train, or until I lose the hunger to keep winning.
....
So here he confirms he wants Cotto and Mayweather and even Witter, who he has since said he will never fight just because he doesn't want to give Witter a payday! WTF is that! He also says he doesn't want to criticize Mayweather, but that his style would be a nightmare for him? If you think you can beat him, FIGHT HIM. Don't turn him down twice. Notice he also says he'll fight Tszyu again despite the last article saying no rematch. Oh my God this is hilarious. He also says three years before he retires, meaning 2008 is it. So if he isn't cashing out now, then what is he doing exactly, kball?Comment
