Dont criticise Hatton for it. You have to try and overcome what Hatton does so well. PBF will try to overcome what noone has done so far.
Hatton has short arms so he is never far from holding unless hes hitting you close in with body punches.

Some would say that HATTON is going to try to overcome what noone has done so far.

If you look at Hatton's technique though, it's flawless. Study him and you willl see how he seemlessly seems to punch and then flow into the clinch position right after the impact of his punches. I'm not crazy about this technique but he uses it very effectively and no doubt has consciously honed it with practice over the years and it has brought him success.
Actually, I think the best current practitioner is Bernard Hopkins.

Bernard hits you, holds you, gives you a bit of head, a bit of elbow, digs a body shot, and hits you again on the other side of the ref. And pops you as you pull away.
            It really wears you down.

What makes BHop so effective is that he sometimes moves away, and sometimes moves in close. More varied.

It's not a new thing; look at some grainy videos, it was much worse at the beginning of the last century

It works extremely well for Hatton. if you watch most of his fights you will see that it isn't exactly holding or clinching, he feints and smothers his opponent with his nearest arm and throws with his free arm, at the same time he uses the leverage he has gained by the position to pivot his opponent and smash in the hooks.

This technique has been used by many fighters for decades but Hatton seems to have perfected it, the reason why he 'gets away with it' is simple, he throws a huge volume of punches from different sides and angles therefore most referees do not deem it as clinching or hitting and holding.

Look through the tapes and you will find that it is hardly mentioned by the referees during the fights or by his losing opponents after the fights!
