Is Ricky Hatton the best ever at the "punch and grab" technique.

Before you flame me, this is a serious thread. The punch and hold technique is indeed a skill and it occured to me that there have been many successful fighters incorporating such a technique (one other of note is John Ruiz and Bernard Hopkins as of late). If you look at Hatton's technique though, it's flawless. Study him and you willl see how he seemlessly seems to punch and then flow into the clinch position right after the impact of his punches. I'm not crazy about this technique but he uses it very effectively and no doubt has consciously honed it with practice over the years and it has brought him success.

he's very good at it. Kostya Tszyu was also good at it, though he didnt use it as much as Hatton. Ricky fights like a club fighter..but what makes it tough for his opponents, he fights like a club fighter with world class ability.

I would also say that, because he fights so close some of the holding is often done by his opponents..

I don't particulary mind the style , if it is combined with alot of thrown punches..
Hatton is always ahead on punches thrown and his work rate is high.
It's not as if he throws a punch and just holds on for the break, he constanly tries to get shots off...

There have been a couple of exceptions when he has struggled in a fight , but then this technique has got him the win...

I don't know about "best ever."

This is a classic, time-honored technique use by many many of the old school greats.

Hatton is a great employer of this method in the modern age tho..

His comment was meant as a criticism towards Hatton, not praise.

To my understanding excessive clinching is not allowed in boxing but an exception has been made for Hatton and other fighters latelely. This is not a style this **** is ruining the sport and others are adopting it
