I don't love Floyd, far far from it, but you gotta give him his props, he's doing shedloads towards cementing his image as the finest for years...and he hasn't dodged a soul. You gotta give him his props for that. There ain't many (Corrales aside) who would take everyone that is stuck in front of him.
By the way, I'm English, so I should be badmouthing him so bad because he's got Ricky coming up, but I can't. Cut the guy some slack.Comment

I'll take my sandwich with mozerella, prosciutto, lettuce, vineger dressing.
Make it yourself lol
Sorry Oscar won 4 or 5 rounds in the fight. No one gave a **** about the title BTW. Oscar had a chance with the jab and stopped throwing it. Floyd beat him potshotting. Didn't even have to really throw combinations.
I see only Mosley or Cotto giving Floyd any serious trouble. I doubt Floyd goes up in weight.
oscar winning four or five rounds is your opinion and i respect that opinion and know we wont agree but my opinion is he got the 115-113 win. its my opinion he won (very narrowly...but he did) according to my views...and the first judge.
i wouldnt say i was really caring about the title too much but apparently floyd did for taking the fight AND it does make a difference for me because without the title i wouldnt complain as much about the decision BUT since i firmly believe, "if you want to BE the champ you must CLEARLY BEAT the champ" and dont believe thats what floyd did. oscar showed me he wanted to retain his title and came forward nearly the whole fight to prove that...floyd ran...showing he didnt want to win the fight.
i do agree with you about oscar stopping with the jab...i kept thinking to myself (during the fight), "damnit oscar...use the jab". and i think if he did keep using it he would have won the 3rd judges decision instead of it being 115-113 for floyd. according to the scorecards the 3rd judge was the only one who didnt give the last round to oscar...which would have changed everything.
but its done now...
and i agree with you about mosely and cotto. i could see them giving problems to floyd...especially someone as young and fresh as cotto...Comment

i dont hope he gets seriously hurt.
i have respect for him from opening bell of the first round to the closing bell of the 12th. when he doesnt run.
when he skips around the ring all night it makes me angry because i think about all the trash he talks and then when he has the chance to back it up...he doesnt...and i dont think its right thats all.
hes a great fighter and im not going to say he isnt. i have respect for his as a fighter because it takes a lot of courage to get in the ring.
i just want to see him finally silenced and maybe then he wont be so ****y anymore.
and to the person that said ali was ****y i'd like you to know this...
ali was more ****y than floyd could ever be BUT the difference is if ali said this and that...thats EXACTLY what he'd do in the ring and if for whatever reason he couldnt he would at least SHOW YOU he's trying to make good on his word.
hearing his pre-fight trash talking you could have almost took it as good as reading the paper the day after the fight...he was predicting the future it seemed like.
floyd has the trash talking part down (believe me he does) but when its time to deliever (ie. in the ring) he does the opposite and runs.
the on-going joke between me and my friends (regarding the oscar de la hoya / mayweather fight) is this:
anyone remember the epsiode of mayweather/de la hoya 24/7 where floyd and crew are watching a previous episode of show and (i dont remember which order but it was one right after the other) where floyd says, "i talk a lot of ****, and now i got to back that up" then (or right before that statement) he says, "roge (indictating his uncle) get the running ****...im ready"...
the joke is floyd did talk a lot of **** and when it came time for the fight he put on his running shoes and ran. he didnt fight anywhere NEAR like he said it was going to be.
he said, "im going to stop oscar in the fight...its going to be a massacre"
i didnt see oscar get knocked out...or knocked down...or in any serious trouble of gettings knocked out or down...or even see floyd make the effort.
i didnt see a massacre...he escaped (barely) with a split decision that almost wound up being a oscar win or a draw.
that is NOT a massacre.
if i had my eyes closed and no one told me who said who was going to stop who or who said it was going to be a massacre until after the fight i would have guessed oscar said it because he was showing that.
so what floyd talks the trash but oscar backs it up??? doesnt seem right to me for p4p champ to be talking all that trash but not backing it up.Comment

That'd be me, dude.
Get off of the Ali bandwagon. He was great, but he's become canonised. We could get into the 'Ali was the greatest' debate, but this ain't the purpose of this thread. Ali was ten times more ****y than Floyd, but nobody hates him because of this. Ali has become a product of media hype over the years, same too in terms of music with The Beatles, lots of folk who only know half the story ****ing on about stuff they don't know too much about.
You go into any pub anywhere and ask "who was the greatest fighter ever?" they'll just roll Ali off of their tongues because that's what ESPN, HBO, BBC and many other media outlets tell you. Don't believe all you read (I'm not saying you do), what I'm trying to say is most folk just listen to everyone saying Ali was the finest bar none, he wasn't.
Floyd is ****y as ****, and he definitely backs up what he says, he says he'll win and he does. He's not as specific as Ali, but that doesn't matter. We don't want boxers to tell us the round they'll 'do it' in.
Props to you Frank too for having only 30 or so posts and getting such a good reputation for intelligent discussion. We need more like you.
Welcome aboard.

thanks for the welcoming.
i dont believe ali was the greatest boxer.
there are many fighers out there just as good and argueably better.
louis
marciano
frazier
i get that...i think some of the fighters should get more credit instead of giving all the credit to ali. there were many greats before him...and after.
all i meant by that comment is that ali at least made the effort to back up what he said.
floyd said he'd stop oscar and never came close nor did he appear he was trying to and thats what made me mad is that he should have at least shown he was trying if he said he'd do it.
sometimes i think he just said it to get attention to be honest because i didnt believe (and still dont believe) he could stop oscar.Comment

I got you, man.
I don't reckon he could have stopped DLH.
My main beef with this forum at the minute is the Floyd haters. I'm nothing close to his biggest fan, but I wish folk would stop giving him such a beat down.
What's your standpoint on the Hatton - Floyd scrap. I say Floyd by miles. Ricky's the bomb, but he just ain't great enough.
Keep up the good work, man.
Peace
Ian
