I personally dont like mayweather.
i dont like all the trash talking.
SOME trash talking is good and makes things interesting but i think he's idolizing ali a little too much. AT LEAST ali backed up his trash talking and put a whooping on whoever he said he was going to whoop and if for any reason he couldnt do what he said he was going to do he made a clearly visible effort (85% of the time) to make it happen.
Floyd just talks trash and then doesnt back it up.
I clearly remember him saying he was going to stop de la hoya and it would be a massacre. that statement couldnt have been further from the truth. why?
well de la hoya was never in ANY serious trouble.
mayweather (for saying he was going to stop him and it would be a massacre) didnt press the fight (at all...in any round).
the fight was a very close SD win for floyd. that isnt a massacre to me...thats barely sneaking by to win a title that (in my opinion) he didnt deserve to win.
Why?
he NEVER pressed ANY action
de la hoya was pressing the fight and in my opinion that shows de la hoya wanted to retain his title far more than floyd wanted to win it.
you cant "beat" a champion by running.
im all for the "hit and not get hit" style of boxing but floyd forgot the hit part. he ran...when de la hoya would pressure him and come forward floyd would back into a corner or back into the ropes...once he got out of there he would job around the ring...but never punch back.
it seemed the only time floyd would punch is when he absolutely had to because he knew oscar was looking better than him in the round.
i scored the fight 115-113 for de la hoya. i could have been content with a draw but NOT giving the title to floyd.
he didnt beat the champ clearly like you should to win a title.
if nobody was a title holder that night i could see the fight going SD in either fighter's favor...but not when de la hoya was a title holder. i think it was a robbery and the sad thing is that i think de la hoya is getting older and might not be able to give another hard effort like he did (coming forward all 12 rounds and punching...and punching...and punching)
2nd of all i dont like how he's gotten wins in his career that should have been losses or draws (ie. de la hoya, castillo, etc)
3rd of all i get angry because i KNOW there are fighters out there who are very capable of convincingly beating this guy (ie. hatton...cotto in a year or two...mosely, etc.)
those are 3 fighters that i know could beat mayweather.
why?
well hatton is very technically sound and a true student of the sport and he will still be a true student of the sport when he is 35. its his style. he's very technically sound (not some bum mayweather can out box). He has tremendous power (knocked out castillo with a body shot). He has fast hands and is pretty fast on his feet. i could see hatton give floyd a lot of problems in their fight on dec. 8. and to top it off floyd wont be able to hurt hatton...hatton's chin is too tough and mayweather (at this stage in his career) isnt known as a knockout puncher so that means hatton doenst have to fear his power...because its not as dominate as earlier in his career
as for cotto we all know he is a tremendously hard hitting fighter (like hatton) it shows because not many fighters have gone the distance against cotto. another good thing about cotto is he likes to go to the body...which would help if he fought mayweather because it would slow down floyd through out the course of the fight. cotto chin IS questionable BUT i dont think its so questionable that floyd can muster enough power to knock him out (MAYBE...just MAYBE knock him down like a "flash" knockout...but never out) Another good thing about cotto is his heart, courage, and his "sixth sense" (ie. he's a crowd pleasing fighter and as far as his sixth sense goes if he thinks he has something going like a possible KO he brings on the pressure heavy and its simply a beautiful performance)
as for mosely i think he knows something that mayweather doesnt. he seems to have great confidence and thinks he can beat mayweather...mosely has been around the block MORE THAN a few times and i trust his judgement. mosely is a good counterpuncher...he has good defense and power to go with it. his speed might be slowing down but he has great tools to compensate for the loss of speed over the years.
personally i think either 3 can beat mayweather and if mayweather can clearly (not a robbery decision...) but a clear win (doesnt have to be KO) that shows he was simply the better fighter without running the whole fight THEN i will give him his credit.
but as of now he hasnt shown me anything other than he acts like a jerk and is all talk.
if he didnt trash talk like he does (without backing it up) i might like him a little more. but he acts very immature and thinks of himself far too highly.

and for the record i dont hope he gets hurt or anything like that...but if he were to lose then i'd be happy about that.
a KO is one thing but to those that want to see him seriously hurt (like emmanuel nwodo was when he got KO'd by Darnell wilson on FNF and didnt get up for five mintues and lay with his legs buckled underneath him) that is just disgusting and that is NOT what boxing is about.Comment

Pressing the fight or not Floyd landed more. Oscar had a chance if he kept throwing the jab. Oscar won 5 rounds at best.Comment

A fighter's confidence is not a basis for you making a judgment.
I believe that Floyd would beat Mosley at LW, and I believe that Floyd would beat Mosley at WW. Shane doesn't have the defense befitting somebody of his athleticism. He gets hit too much. He relies on that A+ chin of his. That would be his downfall against PBF. Floyd would win a clear decision.Comment
