You know what I respect about floyd, he is the best pound for pound fighter and he knows and he make sure he lets everyone else know that. However, he doesn't slack off at all. He works out everyday he earned his spot and he takes all his fights seriously, some people get big headed and slack off cough*tyson and pacman*cough and THEY might get humbling experiences but he won't because he trains for the worst and performs like the best.Comment

for those that say mayweather ran during his fight with oscar they dont know boxing...they get an idea in their head and run with it... watch the fight again...mayweather layed on the ropes most of the night....even frddie roach after the fight said and i quote " oscar stood in front of mayweather like a statue, he didnt do what we worked on in camp"....Mayweather is way to smart....what oscar does and does well is an old technique called a parry he parries ur punches and than turns his left hook over to knock u out...it would work even better if he could do it with the right hand as well...oscar wants u to open up in order to parry ur punches and than counter with a left hook..mayweather saw this and stopped throwing alot of punches if u fight a counter puncher who starts timing u throw less... so floyd would jab...lean on ropes jab..lean...left right ...lean...oscars plan was supposed to be by what freddie roach said was to counter mayweathers jab with a right... and when mayweather started to concentrate on the right ...try to slip in the left hook...mayweather realized what oscar was doing in the fight and started throwing less...when ur fast like floyd u have a tendency to say i can hit this guy at will...but oscar aint a dumb boxer either..he times u and lets u throw and open up he'll let u whoop his azz for 3 rounds than get ur timing and parry ...a shot with his left ...than counter with a left hook..fights over... now floyd was smart ...it may boo the crowd but he's scoring...jab..lean...jab ..lean...left right...lean... oscar wasnt throwing that counter right over mayweathers jab like roach said they had worked on... maybe the speed worried him that im not sure off..but technically mayweather did not run in that fight....and he outsmarted oscar....now i think oscar would beat hatton or cotto...they'll be at MSG...and ull have the porta reecan fans cheering when cotto is opeing up on oscar...and oscar wil be thinking ok their cheering ok i see ur wife jumpin up and down for u ...than when he times cotto..left hook..fights over.... lets go have a mexican tequilla.... mayweather in a smaller ring would do the same thing against oscar...lean on the ropes.. and i dont think oscar is smart enough to adjust his gamplan to beat mayweather in a rematch...and even if he adjusted just a bit...mayweather is smart and would adjust a bit too to cancel the whole stradegy out......now have a coke and dont worry about a rematch.....Comment

I seen what you were talking about during the fight. i get this. that is smart. BUT the whole fight wasnt just mayweather on the ropes. he ran. im all for the old saying, "make him miss, then make him pay". mayweather made him miss...but rarely in the fight made him pay.
i have burned the fight on dvd since about 2 weeks after it was over and everytime i watch the fight i still come up with the same opinion and the same 115-113 score for de la hoya...apprently im not the only one who believed he won the fight since mayweather DID score a split decision win one of the judges gave it to de la hoya...with the same score i had it.
a gameplan is very important BUT it is also important to adjust your gameplan during the course of the fight (especially if the gameplan isnt working) and thats what oscar did. he changed it up and decided not to continue to look for the perfect spot and timing to place the left hook. im sure it was always in his mind but i seen (we all seen) him try new things...and they were working.
i dont care what anyone says but according to the judges scoring (especially on the replay when it shows who they scored to win round by round) that they favored de la hoya's come forward and flurry repeatedly style in the fight. oscar won most of the rounds he charged and flurried EVEN THOUGH majority of the shots werent landing. and do you know why he won the rounds? because the judges are only human and the visual effort of oscar and the crowd reactions played into it...especially when floyd would grasp on immediately (whenever he thought he was losing the exchange in the judges eyes) to de la hoya and wait to be separated.
floyd wanted to fight like the taller and longer armed man that night...oscar wanted to be inside and it wasnt too hard for oscar to get inside (considering when de la hoya came forward majority of the time floyd would allow him to) and he won those rounds;.
and if floyd was winning rounds by jabing and leaning on the ropes (jabs that werent landing too much) and oscar was using mayweathers arms as a punching bag (ie. punches that werent landing much either) then who wins the rounds when both miss...exactly...think about it.
and i personally dont care HOW smart of a fighter you are there is always that one time where the other guy outsmarts you. plain and simple...history is a great lesson of that...ali's famous "rope-a-dope" tells you that right away...foreman thought he was smart with endless punches and winning rounds but then right there at the end BOOM down he goes and ali wins.
mayweather will eventually lose (unless he "retires"...at 30 btw...come on).
Hatton has a great chance.
and if hatton cant do it there will be someone who will...weather it be cotto, williams, mosely, cotto, or whoever. mayweather will lose.
its inevitable.
if he decides to go up to middleweight again he might have his hands full with taylor...who likes to fight smart (most of the time) as well...
either way mayweather will get beat...and i promise i will be watching that fight.
as for the de la hoya/mayweather fight goes you can make a great arguement for each fighter (it truely was that close) it just so happens i believe strongly that oscar de la hoya did enough to retain his title. i dont see mayweather doing enough or being elusive enough or smarter than de la hoya was in that fight.
its just my opinion.
i respect you views though.Comment

I see only Mosley or Cotto giving Floyd any serious trouble. I doubt Floyd goes up in weight.Comment
