    Interesting post...

I tend to agree and disagree with post. I think we all can identify with our fighters from countries we are from. My heritage is irish so i root for irish fighters. I am american though so when an american is fighter (black, white, tan, brown, green) I root for him. Thats the way i am. Did i root for white fighter do well in the heavyweight division in the 80's yeah. They were all american (cool) and a white heavy was non existent. I root for the underdog. Did i root for tyson and cry when douglas beat em yeah. I think true boxing fans root for the people who they like. However this being said i grew up in NY with friends of all colors and creeds so I may be different than someone who grew up in nebraska or harlem.

It's not bad having pride in your hometown, just don't let it affect your bias to where you provoke others.

I don't think being for your own people makes
a person racist. Being for your own kind does not
mean you're against every other kind.I think
people are to in a rush to call someone racist.

I've long held the perception that British sports fans are a bit racist. More than most.

I wouldn't say boxing is racist, but boxing FANS can be. Just because you root for someone of your own race doesn't make you racist, that's just taking pride in your own race. However, if you root against someone because of their ethnic background that can be a racist act.

I'm Cauciasian. My favorite fighters are/were: Diego Corrales, Floyd Mayweather, James Toney, Manny Pacquiao, Jermain Taylor, Paul Williams, Fernando Vargas, Miguel Cotto.

I also realize Wladimir Klitschko wouldn't win a title in any other heavyweight era, that Kelly Pavlik is overhyped, and that Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe are too scared to come out of their comfort zones.

                      lol, nice try though
