    Calzaghe In Benn's Era

Calzaghe vs nigel benn is a fight id love to have seen, calzaghe wouldnt have stood a chance back then he's so overrated, just imagine him against the likes of Benn, Eubank (in his prime), Michael Watson, Gerald Mcclellan, Iran Barkley, Roy Jones Jnr and Bernard Hopkins, he'd get found out for the average boxer that he is, the fighters above have had some proper brawls and brutal fights (some of them). calzaghe's had an easy ride fighting bums and reality tv stars, i just hope he runs into someone decent someday soon!

There is a huge gulf between Benn's opponents and Calzaghe's opponents, there's no question about that

Watson, DeWitt, Barkley, Eubank, Galvano, G-MAN > every one of Calzaghe's 20 world title challengers

But the thing is, Benn took on guys nobody else in the world would fight (Watson, Barkley, Eubank, Sims, McClellan) whereas Calzaghe seems to be (or claims to be) the guy that others wouldn't fight...

*****.. (Insults took a bit longer than expected but.. there you go..) I'm just kidding.. Point is, Calzaghe is a good boxer. Speculation kind of bothers me as, we'll never know so it's pointless. Besides, you got your wish, he's facing Mikkel Kessler so, we'll see.

These English guys from the early 90s are Juy's heroes and all, but were any of them ever in Calzaghe's league? I've not seen any evidence of it.

Exactly and if Benn was still in his heyday he'd take on calzaghe no questions, frank warren would probably still keep him wrapped up in cotton wool though, trying to protect his record. what a joke.

Nigel Benn was the favourite sportsman of 99% of London in the late 80's and early to mid 90's

And ofcourse he's in Calzaghe's 'league'. The performance against Lacy was sublime, though

Benn was crazy. Anyone who thinks different should watch his fight with McClelland and that Gladiator show he did with Eubank as well as that other SAS show.

                    Kid was ready to die.
