If you change the rules of any sport to make it easier on the athletes they are going to get "softer". If you shorten the length of the football field, like in Arena football, you don't get the same caliber of running backs or wide recievers because their is less room to run. If you make a golf game only five holes, well, endurance is cut. A baseball game with only two bases and six innings? Well...the baseball players would eventually not be up to the level the three base nine round players were.

Point? Well, of course guys today aren't able to go fifteen rounds- we don't make them. The question isn't about if the boxers today can handle it...it's about whether or not you want it. Even if every single boxer today crumbled under the new fifteen round rules a whole new set of higher endurance athletes would rise to take their place. Some men are fast- some powerful- others have stamina. Changing the rules would just change which boxers are favored and who makes it to the championship level.

True, but it can make it worse by fighting the extra 3 rounds. Amonsost case is just one example. By fighting the 15 rounds, the head will get beat up and in the process suffer an injury.

We can say we want to the 15 rounds back cuz its more exciting, but we have to make sure also that the boxers health is in consideration also.

True ^...But if thats the type of mentality a fighter has...they'll get KO'd. Imagine you being the fighter and your plan is to go the distance whatever that may be 15 rounds or whatever. The other opponent is coming to the fight to knock you out regardless of how far in the rounds you want to make it. If your mindset is 15 rounds then you'll try to conserve energy for the later rounds. You get where I'm going? Besides wouldn't you rather have 5 or less rounds of excitement than 15 rounds of....

Well said...then it would quiet alot of the naysayers that question certain fighters. If you can go all 15 and do what you do and be effective...then you got moxy kid . Otherwise...*fart.

Sure you will...boxers will do what you tell them to. Or, it could be made contractually optional. So the guys that wanna prove whos a real champ can match up.

Its called gameplan. Take a chance...misfire and pay the price. Lest you forget boxing is the most dangerous game on earth.

How about making them 6 rounds so they fight like hell cuz they can't afford to lose even a couple of rounds?

I respect and agree that the valient men that fight for our entertainment should be protected. That said, they fight for more than the fan. They fight for the pride of being a champion. They fight for the money of being a star. They fight for fame- not just our benefit. The men that choose boxing did so for more reasons that just altruism. It's a violent sport. Boxers enter a realm where their job is to get hit, bleed, and try and win through physical means. Hurt and getting hurt is their suit and tie. While I hate to say it....we can't dilute the sport to make it less risky when that's the very nature of the game.

Making fights shorter to save fighters from sustaining injury is a bull**** excuse. Every fighter goes into that ring knowing full well the consequences that might result.

Things get interesting in the late rounds. How many brilliant knockouts have happened in the late rounds? Rocky Marciano, Sugar Ray Leonard, Aaron Pryor, the list goes on.

It seems like extending title fights to 15 rounds would make for better fights and help the state of boxing, but can you imagine if a marquee fighter was seriously injured or even ended up dying as a result of his injuries in the ring? It would kill boxing. I realize this is unlikely, and that there is always the risk of injury regardless of how many rounds, but I just dont think adding 3 rounds is gonna do that much to help boxing in the first place. I don't think it's worth the risk at all.

well said Ace...and you guys must realize that there is only like 10% of real boxing fans who would actually sit to watch 15 rounds of boxing. People who attend the matches want to see someone get knocked out plain and simple. The sooner that happens the sooner they can get on and do what they gotta do. i'm not speaking for every boxing fan but thats how I see it...i know it sounds fcked up but it is what it is

Nope... I actually have compassion for fighters and don't want them to just step in the ring and kill each other for my enjoyment.
