By Sky News SkyNews - A former British heavyweight boxing champion is seriously ill in hospital after being shot when he asked three men to stop smoking.

James Oyebola, 47, was shot in the face when he asked the men at a London nightspot to observe the smoking ban.

One of the men pulled a gun at the Chateau 6 club in Fulham Road, in the southwest of the capital, and shot him in the head and leg.

Oyebola is in a critical condition after being gunned down in a courtyard at the rear of the venue.

He was taken to a west London hospital, where police said he was in a critical condition.

Officers were called to the club just before 1am.

Three men, only described as black, were spotted running away from the scene.

Oyebola, a bouncer, had stepped in to help staff try to persuade the men not to smoke.

The shooting is being investigated by detectives from Operation Trident, which examines crime within black communities.

its not the guns that are the problem its the people, you could have almost any gun you wanted in the 50's and 60's but gun crime was a lot less than it is now that all hand guns and a lot of other type of guns have been banned, ever since they banned them gun crime has got worse. i saw some posts about channel U i seen it a few times and find it funny the way some of those people act on there, they are trying to be gangsters but they just look ******.

It's when kids have **** parents with 10 children living off welfare, those kids don't have a chance in life they end up staying on the rough estates for the rest of their lives, they grow up with other bad kids, they just get influenced in the wrong way.
