Bernard Hopkins, bigger name, better skills in his prime than Calzaghe.

      Hopkins:

De La Hoya is more skilled than Calzaghe and is very quick handed.

Roy Jones at 160> Calzaghe in every way.

Winky Wright > Calzaghe in terms of boxing skill

Tarver Is a much bigger name than Calzaghe.
      Lay off the crack, son.

De La Hoya couldn't have done anything to Hopkins that would've made the fight an even one....especially after getting a gift against Sturm.

James Toney, Jermaine Taylor, Tito, Oscar, Winky, Tarver, they fought each other.....lets see Calzaghe ummm well how can you forget Jeff Lacy, he reminds us every interview, and the always scary amateur I mean contender Manfredo whooo hooo....lets really not go there with who's fought better competition.

I wonder why that was, might have something to do with the fact that was his 6th weight class,

How many Weight classes has calzaghe moved up?

            Ermmm.....................none.

No Calzaghe is not more skilled than de la hoya, which is why DLH has 6 world titles in 6 different weight classes, fights with some of the greatest names of his generation, olympic gold medal.

              I just saw the fight.

It was entertaining like I thought it would be. A lot of rounds were hard to score, but I found myself giving most of them to Hopkins. I had Winky winning four rounds. The 4th and 2nd were both clearly his, and the other two were close rounds.

Hopkins fought like a throwback last night. He used every trick in the book. Theres no doubt he deserved the decision. He made it a rough fight, and his counter right hand was on the money time and time again. When Winky wasnt active, he would throw flurries. I noticed Hopkins pulled a trick from Jersey Joe Walcott's book with the walking away then quick punch when Winky wasnt expecting it.

Just a beautiful performance by Hopkins. Do I think this is a different fight at Middleweight where Hopkins isnt as strong, and active? Yes I do, but either way Winky was game, and Hopkins showed why he is a legend. I refuse to count Bernard out against Calzaghe now.

Everyone avoids everyone half the time it seems.
                Hope this fight happens.
The problem is not that noone gives any particular fighter credit. The problem is blind fans who criticize other fighters for sins that their own idols commit.
There are parallels between many fighters. Hopkins and Calzaghe for example have substansive similarities to their career paths. Both have creditably sat atop a weight division and both have had little in the way of competition through no fault of their own.
RJJ and PBF both are (were) superb fighters who left some questions unanswered by their choice of competition. When two superbly fast fighters take on larger, slower opponents in a higher division and win by speed and movement I am less impressed than when they take on the next up and coming challenger who has worked for years to get to the position to challenge. I'm not saying their victory has no merit but it has less for me personally.
As it happens, Hopkins has moved into a class of his own with his willingness to take on what looked like major challenges in Winky and Tarver. That they didn't train well, perform well or just misjudged their tactics is not Hopkins' fault.
Sadly I think he's going to crap out against Calzaghe because Joe is exceedingly lively and if nothing else will steal round after round with quick slap-jabs.
I'd rather Hopkins took the fight and won but he'll have to do something other than wait and counterpunch. Then again, he obviously saw something he could take advantage of in Winky. Maybe he's seen something in Calzaghe.

Thats not a particularly good question. A much better one is "Who have either of them ever been in the ring with who were more likely to beat them than Calzaghe is now?"

I think that you'll find that that question produces a very slim list.

                      Do you eat crack, boy?

Listen. Hopkins just started moving up in weight classes. Atleast with Calzaghe he fought at the weight he belonged at his whole career. Hopkins, on the otherhand, is a natural Light-Heavyweight who drained himself for years to get the upperhand.

He was a Natural Light-Heavyweight who fought at middleweight and called out Welterweights.

What kind of **** is that?
