I seen this fight Live and I had Margarito wining it was because of the crowd everytime he conected everybody went wild but when I got home I seen the fight on tv and I gave it to Williams 115-113, I still feal that Williams got more of a beating out of the two every time Margarito would touch him Williams would be quick to start holding or running He's lucky he's so ****en tall in has that long ass reach, I cant beleave this guy never won a gold medal in the olympics he has the perfect body in style to win a gold medal.
How did you score Magarito vs Williams

So i've just watched the fight, arguably the best fight i have seen this year.
Margarito actually fought very well, but first thing's first,
Williams is a disgrace for coming into a welterweight fight at 162 pounds, he weighed 145 and a 1/2 on the scales, then put 17 pounds afterwards, that's just ridiculous, he is basically fighting two whole weight classes above some of these welterweight guys, and he must be hurting himself, all that draining cannot be good for his health long term.
This was the hardest fight i have scored since being on boxingscene forum, the title was previously held by Barrera Marquez earlier this year, but this was such a close fight, here's why.
Williams style is very deceptive, he throws punches simply for the sake of throwing punches and to keep the other guy off his rythm, but the majority of williams shots were not landing, you can see it from very early on in the fight, Margarito showed good defense, kept his gloves up and clearly parried alot of those shots.
It was pitful to watch Lederman throw away rounds at williams, imo, if you score fights clearly on work rate, you probably had williams winning 9-3 or something like that, but when you look at who landed the more effective punches, margarito clearly won a few of these rounds.
Williams throws pitter patter shots which dont always land and dont hurt, look at margarito's face after the fight, he looks the same way he looked when he came in the ring, no way can you tell me williams landed anywhere near half of the shots he threw.
Yet Margarito had williams hurt several times in the fight from body shots and right hands.
Williams is very very awkward, simply because he is tall and throws lots of meaningless punches against gloves which the judges will score, i think he has good footwork for someone so big and as merchant said, he is very good fighting on the inside.
But with williams once you get past that ****ty pitter patter jab, he cant handle it, his head movement wasnt good enough, and he is begging to be hurt by right hands, when margarito got underneath the jab williams was very vunerable and got hit clean, which is why he was cut during the fight.
I give williams credit, he is quick, quite slick at times, throws lots of punches, and would be handful for ANY fighter at 147 pounds, because he is tall, quick, volume puncher, but when you talk about EFFECTIVE punches landed, i dont think he lands enough, and i dont think Harold Lederman knows how to score a close fight.
Margarito gave a good account of himself, he worked wiliams out to a degree down the strech, getting underneath the jab, feinting a little and going to body and head.
Williams kept margarito at distance for huge parts of the fight, and left margarito with no choice but to risk it all and lunge in to land on williams, williams also hit margarito with some superb counter uppercuts and left hands as Margarito came in.
But for me williams throws lots of gloves punches, watch the fight in slow mmo if you have to, to me, most of them just get blocked by margarito.
For me it was an extremely close fight, i had it 115-114 williams (final round decided the fight for me, and with round 5 a draw)
Margarito isnt finished, i would love to see him fight cotto next, that's easily a fight of the year candidate.
Williams will give any fighter at welterweight serious problems, if he can improve his accuracy, but to be honest he weighed 162 pounds at fight night, he shouldnt even be there in the first place.
Both have something to offer this divison, williams is the better prospect, if he keeps improving, and picks his shots more, he could be the future of the welterweight divsion.Comment

I had it 115-113 for Williams. It was nowhere near as dominant as people make it out to be, but at the same time, I have a hard time going along with any scorecard that has Margarito winning the fight.
Tony was right in that he picked off a lot of Williams' punches - but Tony was also throwing up NBA for much of the night. In a fight like that, it doesn;t matter that your landing the more effective punches if/when you're being outthrown and landed by more than a 2-1 ratio and appear to be following your opponent around more so than walking him down.Comment

8 rounds to 4: Paul Williams
The first round that Marg won was the 4th, maybe the 5th, & definitely the 7th & 8th rounds. Williams doesn't have the power, the speed or the skill of a Mayweather, but Marg would beat Floyd. Let's see Marg vs Cotto or Sugar Shane, then ya'll can bring up Floyd again. Dig It?!?
