The fights themself are what usually add most to a fighters legacy. If Cotto were to win in a slugfest against Margarito (especially if he finished him), it would mean a lot more to his legacy than if he beat Williams in an akward fight.Dude I dont know how you can believe that beating Margarito adds more to Cotto's reputation and respect than beating Williams, Mosley, PBF or Hatton.
Why would beating Margarito gain him more respect? Just because Margarito THINKS people fear him, pff? Williams just beat Margarito so right there that kills one of your guys. PBF is undefeated p4p fighter which would also be a better win. Mosley is a former p4p HOF who still has a lot left.
Also Margarito is FAR less marketable now with ANOTHER loss on his resume and coming fresh off a loss. A fight with Mosley, DLH, PBF, Hatton would EASILY generate more money.
I think some of you guys dont realize that Margarito LOST and therefore screwed up the whole fight with Cotto. You guys can complain all you want but Margarito is to blame for this fight not happening right now.
I would rather choose Cotto vs. Mayweather or Hatton as well, but as far as I know, neither Hatton or Mayweather are particularly looking into fighting Cotto at the moment.
A fight with Mosley sounds damn good to me, but so does one against Margarito. Either way, they sound like great fights I would like to see.

Hold on for a second, where did I say that Cotto fighting Mosley, PBF, DLH, or any of the names you mentioned would NOT generate money? Your changing the argument here and you keep insisting that Margarito isn't worthy of fighting Cotto or something.Dude I dont know how you can believe that beating Margarito adds more to Cotto's reputation and respect than beating Williams, Mosley, PBF or Hatton.

I understand those are big money fights simply because of the possiblity of unifying the title but to go as far and say that beating Margarito wouldn't garnish him some respect or legacy is rediculous.
I will agree with you, as I stated in my last post, that Margarito has lost the title and you are right in that. So Cotto doesn't have to fight him in a million years if he doesn't want to. All I'm saying is, from a FANS perspective, I tihnk Margarito vs Cotto would be a stelar fight and I personally wouldn't count Margarito out. Styles DO make fights and those two have styles that I would love to see go at it.
I think Margarito will have to get a shot at Williams once again and see if he can regain the title to become relevant in the welterweight division once again. I think it could happen and a fight with Cotto down the line would be very entertaining.Comment

I whole heartedly agree with you here. From a stylistic perspective this is one of the best of the bunch along with Clottey-Cotto which would also be a left hookfest. However, as I stated in my first post it makes no other sense than what I just stated.Hold on for a second, where did I say that Cotto fighting Mosley, PBF, DLH, or any of the names you mentioned would NOT generate money? I would love to see Margarito take on Williams or Cintron in a rematch and then early 2008 have him go against Cotto it would be great but not right now.Comment

I wouldn't say that's so, Double, you gotta understand that Miguel Cotto says it time and time again..."I'll fight anybody "MY TEAM" puts in front of me". Bob Arum "MANAGES" Cotto's career, unlike De La Hoya and Mayweather that "pick and choose" thier next opponent. There's a great deal of bureaucratic BS that goes on behind the scenes. To say Cotto ducks anyone is not having knowledge of how the game is played. Like you, I would rather like to see Mosley/Cotto or Mosley/Williams or Cotto/Williams. Throw in Kermit Cintron and we got a party!!!Comment
