In fact, I can't remember a time when people weren't bitching about the heavyweight division. They were saying the same **** back when Tyson was marching through the heavyweights, and then unified...."He wouldn't be able to do this back in the day, he'd be KO'd by (insert legendary heavyweight here) in the first minute of the fight".

Well, I thought it sounded silly then, and do now, too. In fact, this may be one of the least "****ty" divisions I remember. It's not the best, but certainly not what everyone is claiming. I think that, on any given day, there are at least a dozen fighters who could beat any one of the other dozen at the toss of a coin. The only one who's probably not going to get beaten any time soon is Wlad Klitchko (or his brother...I really don't think there's anyone alive who can KO that guy, and you can't beat him any other way), and there's almost always been a single ruling power in the divion. Foreman, Ali, Tyson, Lewis, etc.

The only thing that bothers me about the heayweight division is the lack of activity. Other than that, I like it just fine. Not as good as some of been, maybe, but not bad at all.

DING DING DING! WE HAVE A WINNER!!...

All the complaining is nonsense....is it the best era? no way, far from it...but the comparisons are hard to make....especially when certain fighters' ::COUGHaliCOUGHmarcianoCOUGH::: reps grow totally out of proportion as time goes on....

What is lacking in today's HW division is 1. activity (as already stated) everyone is either way over protected, or they just don't fight anyone...we need someone to go out and at least TRY to unify...and 2. there is no people's champ...whether that person is the actual champ or not doesnt REALLY matter but it helps....there is no Ali, or Foreman, or Tyson, or Holyfield, or Lewis that the general public looks at as a badass, or a good fighter...

The HW division today is clearly the worst in the entire history of the sport of boxing. It is absolutely pathetic that a guy like Lamon Brewster was even considered a top 10 fighter in the division but he was. He is a former WBO champion, but he couldn't land a single significant punch against Klitschko. It was an absolute mismatch.
The undisputed linear Welterweight Champ a year ago was unable to land a significant punch against his challenger, it was an absolute mismatch, and yet this was an opportunity to extoll the virtues of the challenger rather than disparage the quality of the contender. What's wrong with calling it a great performance by Klitschko?

I agree, the best fighters of the 80's were Holmes, and Tyson. Guys like Weaver, Dokes, Cobb, and Witherspoon were good fighters, but not great. Even M. Spinks wasn't bad at heavywieght, but was a great light-heavywieght. Everyone else in the 80's were just basically "opponents", nobody special.

as for today's division, it isn't bad, the fighters just need to step up, especially the title holders, who really need to fight each other, once we have one champ, the division should/hopefully will get better. I mean there's no way of replacing the great eras like the 40's, 50's, 60's, and 70's, but today's era, will be great in it's own way.

I would never pay to see a HW fight from this era, live or payperview.

The heavyweight division has improved in many ways - our current titleholders are men of good character. Our champ Wlad will never go to prison for ****, and he doesn't bite his opponents ears off!

Maskaev and Austin should never be contenders in any era or divison, its just unacceptable lol.

I agree to an extent, however there was TYSON, an undisputed dominant force who was destroying nearly everyone. Wladimir hasnt done that yet, but he's on the path to being the ruler of the division.
