First of all dont trust those punch stats because they gave Mayweather credit for a lot of jabs that hit leather. Oscar was parrying well. I still think Mayweather won 8 rounds to 4, maybe 7-5 at worst, but going into the eighth you can argue Oscar was up four rounds to three. Then he got shut out. Maybe you can give him the 12th.

Anyways, his jab wasnt just snapping Floyd's head back from time to time. It was setting his combinations up. The jab was throwing Floyd off of his rhythem. Jabs dont always have to land to be effective.

First of all, they ignore the fact that if Oscar threw less jabs than he usually does, it's because he had a highly elusive and difficult to hit fighter that can make you look bad by missing shots, so he wanted to make sure everything he threw had a good chance of hitting him.

Second of all, Oscar's punchstats for his jab were HORRIBLE. He landed 40 out of 246 jabs the whole fight (16%). Haters say that he stopped throwing them in the last three rounds, and in fact he threw 77, but only managed to land FOUR. That's a MISERABLE 5%. That means he threw 169 jabs in the first 9 rounds and landed 36 (21%). This means that the 5% jab connect percentage of the last 3 rounds was so atrocious that it made people think he was actually having some success with it in the first 9 rounds, yet 21% is FAR from effective. Floyd himself landed 69 out of 240 jabs in the fight (29%) and he is not known as a jabber, while Oscar is considered by most to be one of the best jabbers in this generation.

So I ask, how do you possibly explain this huge disparity?
      Interesting, Tito..

It was Oscar himself who has made the contention that he was owning Floyd with the jab - when he used it.

Straight ahead connect percentages can be decieving however, when it comes to the jab.

It's a setup/strategic/sometimes defensive/sometimes offensive weapon as we all know..

        1) Oscar's jab was possibly the most effective punch Floyd saw. A jab is not only a weapon but it serves for may other purposes. And Oscar always had a good jab.

        2) 90% Floyd's opponent stop throwing their money punch (or they throw half ass versions of it) in the last third of the fight.
Do they ALL get tired? is that the only reason?
Did anyone ever consider the idea is that MAYBE it is because Floyd figures out how to block/slip/whatever it and counter it consistently in the last third of the fight and opponents do not like to be hit in the face (who does?)?

Oscar can't re-adjust to his opponents' adjustments.

          YES. THEY CAN.

Oscar actually threw MORE jabs in the second half of the fight, but Floyd had made adjustments and they were not landing.

If you go back and watch the re-broadcast, when FMJ was in the studio with Mech and Lamps, they showed a graphic demonstrating just that.

It wasn't that Oscar had stopped throwing. Oscar kept throwing, but the jabs became ineffective. Credit the adjustments that PBF made.

Oscar has never been a smart fighter. 'It wasn't the night of the jab'....WTF was that??
