hamed had all the talent in the world to become a great, but he let himself down and created his own downfall, however he wasnt really over-hyped at the time he was considered along with tyson the most powerful puncher in the game, and his speed and reflexes were second to none, though he only went as far as he did because of ingle, steward as good as he is didnt really know how to handle nas!

Amir khan through no fault of his own is over-hyped, people in britian think he one of the best fighters in the world and when i tell them he isnt even a top 10 fighter in britian they are shocked! He cant help what the media says and does regarding him in all credit to thim he just has to carry on and keep getting the job done but come a guy who has dedicated his whole life to boxing and competed in the olympics is fighting a part time special needs teacher-OVERHYPED!

He was an awesome fighter but the whole drug saga left a sour taste in the mouth for me.

Hamed over hyped himself, he was different and mouthy so he sold tickets and claimed fame, no-one can honestly say he didn't have talent and great power after all his only defeat came against one of the all time greats IMO.
What ruined his legacy was the way he just couldn't really get over the fact he was beaten unlike a true great who would attempt to avenge their defeats.

Mayweather isn't over hyped IMO, across the water here he's not really known off which is a shame as he is undoubtedly the most talented fighter of recent years.

As for Lennox Lewis, cannot agree, OK he lost to two one punch KO's but he came back and avenged those defeats. Other greats have lost yet have not avenged defeats, Foreman lost to Ali (KO) then Jimmy Young (Pts) then retired for 10 years.
Patterson, Louis, Tyson, Holyfield, Ali and even Dempsey etc all lost fights against lesser fighters so....

Gerry Cooney, wins against Lyle, Young and Norton propelled his hype. He was a decent heavyweight in a good era so....
all good points. No need to argue this. Those opinions are reasonable in my opinion, and i can admit i'm one opinionated bastad! lol

Also he’s an awesome boxer and has all the attributes to go very, very far.
All i'm saying JB is there rise to fame has been incredibly similar. Both stars of the Olympics and viewed with great scrutiny through there formative first few pro-fights (much more so than normal novice pro's).

I don't rate Khan, and i've admitted that before, and true we haven't seen him prove his all round skills but what pisses me off is the same point that P29 said : if you ask someone not in the know about boxing in Britain and they think Khan is currently the best boxer in Britain and some would even think he is the best globally. Whats worse is - this is not refuted by the Khan camp - which i think is a big mistake. <--- THIS is the Hype i'm talking about.

Eventually he's going to have to prove himself worthy of this hype... and as a none-Khan believer... i don't think he will be good enough.

Its a shame that he will become a victim of the hype...as did Audley Harrison.

Ike Ibeabuchi and nobody even comes close.

The most overhyped heavyweight and maybe fighter of all time. 1 win over an undersized Byrd and a questionable victory over David Tua and people look back and think he's the greatest fighter in history.

How about Naseem Hamed? KOs tomato cans and washed up former contenders and when he finally gets in the ring with a world class fighter in his prime, he loses and we never hear from him again!

Maybe the overhyped is wrong, but he definatly could have done way more to solidify his place in history!
Amen. I believe when Roy saw what happened to Mclellan it changed him. Mclellan would've fought Jones next in a superfight. Jones, i think, would've won and went on a different path. There is no doubt about Roy being the most athletically gifted boxer EVER. The man did things most dream of in the ring. There is always an argument of him being pressured and put on the ropes. If you look at his prime footage, yea, he got put on the ropes and got bullied in fights and what happened? 6-7 punch combinations. The best combination puncher I've seen including Ray Robinson. Bold statement? Not really. If Roy put it all out on the line, there wasn't anybody ****in' with him PERIOD.

No way was Lewis overhyped. He was guilty of underachieving in certain fights, lacking concentration or being over cautious, but he deserved the hype cos of what he was capable of. Fighters who attract the attention he did don't get that attention because of their concistency but more of what they are capable of when they do turn it on, like when he blew away ruddock, grant and golota.
Any UK boxing fan has to accept that any boxer we produce over here with a shred of potential will be hyped up to ****, and to be honest its beyond even hype, we just don't report on overseas boxers.
I can count on one hand the number of reports/features i've seen on non british boxers in the past 12months and one of them was on Valuev cos it was "funny" that he was tall.
