Okay, GranTorino, I thought about it and you're right. It is an opinion.

McNulty is entitled to his opinion that Povetkin is a bum, just as I'm entitled to my opinion that he's an excellent prospect.

I wasn't referring to your post before - yours is a more considered, serious opinion, not hating on him. When I said "hater" I was referring to the much more negative evaluation given by McNulty.

I'm in about round 3 and not impressed @ all. A younger Donald would have had his way w/Povetkin.

I dont see what all the hoopla is about.

Maybe the fight gets better...but as it stands I give Povetkin about a 6 on a scale of 1-10.

Here is what I thought after watching the fight:
Povetkin definitely improved his defense but he still leaves himself wide open for a counterpunch every time he attacks. Any good counterpuncher (read Chagaev, Ibragimov) will most likely knock him down in a couple of rounds and possibly win the fight, as Povetkin will be a lot more hesitant to come forward.

He throws pretty good combos and has a pretty good speed and stamina.

For his 13th fight as a pro, he did great. Compare level of opponent in the 13th fight of Lewis, Tyson, Evander to his and you'll see what I mean.

In his other thread about Olympic Gold Medal winners, opening post, McNulty said Povetkin "sucks ass" - that's the equivalent of calling him a bum, I reckon. He wrote that three Olympic Gold medal winners - Arreola, Lacy and Povetkin - "suck ass".

The fact is only one - Alexander "Sasha" Povetkin - ever won Olympic Gold. None of them "suck ass" - they're all good fighters. McNulty should do some research before starting his threads.

True. There seems to be a lot of bitterness and envy about the success of East European fighters.
