In boxing, fighters are under dozens of promotional companies, and then you have the managers, the sanctioning bodies, the trainers, the advisers, etc. In the UFC, Dana White can direct fighter A to face fighter B, you can't do that in boxing, especially if both guys are under different promoters.Comment

Its definatly harder to make the big fights in boxing but I dont think thats what RJ meant. He knows its harder and all that but that still doesnt stop the fact that it is what boxing needs. Even if it was something impossible, its still want boxing needs and what is making the UFC go right now. Now will we get there is a whole other question. I think its also harder because of money. Those guys have to take those fights because they dont make crap but in boxing there is alot more money to go around since they dont put a million fights on a card and the boxers get the majority of the money, unlike the UFC.
So again, I dont think RJ was even caring about the other stuff, he was just saying thats the biggest reason and thats what boxing needs to do. To me its funny though because alot of people rip him for hand picking fights in his career. Thats the part when he'll tell you that its not simple to make big fights. I love his part about losing though. That was the best part and I do wish boxing was like that. People cant wait for you to lose now so they can say that you were overrated garbage, even if you only lose once. Thats what I hate the most. You might just have a bad night but it will never be forgivenComment

Per the UFC under-one-company situation:
How long will this last? The fighters are not paid well compared to top boxers, and other than Tito Ortiz they are all scared to complain about it, but that will soon change. Think about the NFL's meteoric rise to the number one sport in America, and how the salaries compare now vs. 15 years ago. UFC is gaining momentum, but if the salaries for the top guys don't increase, you will see guys jumping ship to some of the other MMA companies.
All it takes is one rich decision maker to offer a guy like Liddell or Jackson or someone of that ilk more money and they will jump ship. It may not happen in the immediate future, but if UFC keeps getting bigger, all of MMA will benefit and some fighters will join Ortiz's complaining about salaries.
As for boxing, yes, this of course has always been a problem, but with the Golden Boy-Top Rank settlement in place and fights like Calzaghe-Kessler and Taylor-Pavlik getting close to official, the first heavyweight unification fight since 1999 signed and sealed, Mayweather-Hatton actually being negotiated, and yes, even the return of Tito Trinidad on the docket (and another Oscar fight next year as well), boxing is doing pretty well for itself.Comment
