I'd fear for Malignaggi not to finish the fight to be honest. He is fast but he definately not powerful enough to hurt Hatton (evidence being Malignaggi's woeful K.O to win ratio). Hatton would not be to fussed to keep walking into Malignaggi (like Hatton often does) and just keep bashing Paulie into submission.

I like Malignaggi and he has alot of things going for him - such as his great speed and agility plus his awkwardness, but this fight is FAR FAR to soon. Him personally and his career may get awfully damaged. To much to soon to put Paulie in with a veteran like Ricky.

    Easy win/money/fight for Hatton.

Case in point, several posters here have called Floyd's victory over Oscar meaningless because he wasn't the 25 year old Oscar and the fight was semi-close. The main point is that Oscar would still beat the majority if not all Junior Welter's out there. (not to mention all the advantages Floyd allowed Oscar) Sure he's not the bouncing Oscar of the past but his skills are not eroding the way a "shot" fighter would present himself.

When you see Jose Luis Castillo practically falling over his own feet, that goes beyond "his best days are behind him." At that point you can honestly say the guy has nothing left in the tank. All credit to Hatton for doing what should be done to a shot fighter...knock him out.

I think what it boils down to is that if a fighter can adapt and change his style accordingly as they age, it allows the fighter to still compete at the highest level, then you cannot discredit a victory over that fighter.

Floyd Mayweather is not the same fighter today as he was at 135. Does that make him past his prime as well? No, he's a different fighter today....but still Pound for Pound the BEST.
Ahaha, so effectively Mayweather deserves credit for beating his 'invincible' past his prime fighter and Hatton deserves no credit for defeating his 'almost dead' past his prime fighter?

Castillo was MADE to look so bad by the fact that Hatton was incredibly aggressive. De La Hoya was allowed to look better against Floyd because PBF DIDNT take the fight to him, didnt go out there to hurt him and wear him down. He just beat him to the punch.

Castillo would and still might beat most of the JWW's out there. They are both past their prime, they were both great fighters. Both Hatton and Mayweather deserve equal credit for their victory. PBF deserves some extra credit due to the fact that De La Hoya was a much naturally bigger and stronger and more powerful fighter, but then Hatton deserves extra credit because of the overwhelmingly convincing manner of his victory compared to Floyd's.

Then perhaps you ought not to use them as your ONLY two comparisons in your thread post.

I agree on the bottom line of your post (Hatton deserve credit for destroying castillo like no one ever did before), but Castillo already looked bad against ngoudjo, and honestly it is no surprise, castillo-corrales pretty much ended both fighters' careers.

You picked some pretty poor examples, and also worded in such as way as to diminish the quality of Hatton's win. Mayweather's opponent was "past his prime", Hatton's opponent was "shot"?

I think the the Ricky Hatton you saw against Castillo will make any fighter look 'shot' or 'past his prime'

He worded it that way because there's a clear difference. Oscar isn't far from his best. He hasn't taken the type of beatings Castillo has taken in his career. The only reason he's not at his best now is due to age. Castillo, on the other hand, has taken many beatings in the past and has been involved in a lot of wars. Not to mention he's struggled with weight and that can hurt your body as well. Castillo's body has been through so much abuse that he has nothing left. There was another fighter on the Hatton card who was shot because of the various beatings he's taken, Echols.

Fernando Vargas has gotten knocked out so many times that he was shot by the second Mosley fight. He was 27 or 28, an age where most fighters hit their prime...
