A good follow-up question may be:
Why is a knowledgeable fan asking these types of questions?
Amateur boxing and pro boxing are often two different beings. YOu have some guys who are highly successful in the amateurs, but they may not have a pro-adaptable style.
Didn't Lawrence Clay-Bey (really) win the gold at heavyweight over Klitschko?
Abdulaev beat Cotto in THE OPENING ROUND of the Olympics.

Everyone loses as an amateur. Everyone. And to get to the olympics takes guts, hard work, determination, and a trainer who is a dab hand at boxing politics. You also have to be lucky enough to be at that stage in your amateur career just when the olypic trials roll around.
Ray Robinson didn't go to the olympics and he had an udnefeated amateur record.
Oh and Floyd's amateur career is outstanding.Comment
