Brooklyn, don't forget he won every round...from what I've read, he dominated the tough, cagey old pro for much of the fight. Larry Donald is not an easy opponent. And Sasha defeated Donald decisively, something Valuev was unable to do.

This was an impressive win. I wish I could have seen the fight. I still think they are pushing him too fast but I guess if he keeps beating the competition they put in front on him, then who is to say what exactly is "too fast"?

Sasha's ready to fight contenders, he's decisively won every fight so far. It's nice to see that in this time, when so many young boxers are being overprotected, there's one who's fought some decent opposition in his first 13 fights. That tougher opposition will have him better prepared for title fights when the time comes.

Byrd, TOS, Scott, Minto, Barrett, Witherspoon, and Akinwande would be good opponents.

Brock, Haye, and Virchis would be too risky this soon.
Canada, I don't really understand what the rush is, with this fighter? He's not a complete fighter yet and seems to have several (fixable) flaws in his game right now. So, why not shop him around with some solid fighers like Guinn or Fields? He is only 13-0 right now.

I just seems like Sauerland and others are trying to push this kid into a title shot a bit too prematurely and I think if he gets in with a Byrd, Ruiz, Rahman, or even Akinwade he might be exploited and suffer a bad loss. So, I ask again; What's the big ****in rush?...

Oleg Platov last year at age 23 beat Akinwande, and Povetkin > Platov. The always difficult but aging Akinwande would give good experience to Sasha, while still being a certain win.

Canada, please don't go there...You've been here long enough to know not to make an argument using 'circular logic.'..

I'm not sure what you mean by my using circular logic - but it is illogical for you to think that if Povetkin can win every round against Larry Donald, then he would be defeated by Akinwande! Donald is a little younger and a better boxer than Akinwande, who is 42 and was at his peak some ten years ago!

thats a good win for povetkin, i still not sold on him being the next great heavyweight, but he could well hold one of the many different belts

Lol, circular logic is: If Williams won over Tyson and Vitali won over Williams, then Vitali>Tyson. Povetkin shouldn't fight Akinwande, he should fight Rahman. Rahman has nothing but a name, I doubt he will present any problems for Povetkin. But he still carries a name that will put Povetkin on the map.

I completely agree that Povetkin should fight Rahman next, for the reasons you said. But Akinwande would probably be willing, while Rahman might not be (for the same money).
