It's definitely not 'subjective', and race is not so much a 'social construction' as it is biologically superficial. Contrary to what social theorists, who like to infer immediately from 'not biologically deep' to 'socially constructed', say, race is a biologically real phenomenon.

And you have the Turks thing backwards, they didn't come from whites, the became white by integration over the past few millennia.

I would advise you to take a look at Benedict Anderson's book- 'Imagined Communities'.

For another racial group who became white have a look at the Magyars (Hungarians). They came from Asia originally.

England and America are different. In America white players are discriminated against heavily, by white fans and managers but especially by by the (less numerous) black fans. Whites here think athletes are supposed to be black.

There's statistics to verify this. In basketball, for instance, white players are drafted on average far lower than their actual productivity.

In boxing it used to be much worse, and the majority of American boxing fans are still uncomfortable with the idea of white boxing champions. Many such people do in fact post here.

There was a statistical analysis in one of the national basketball magazines a few years back. A key problem with your examples is that there are many more Michael Olawakandis than there are Adam Morrisons. There have also been in the history of the draft a shockingly high number of white late-picks who became good players.

I don't have the article at my fingetips, sorry. But just put all the lottery names in front of you from the past ten years and I think you'll see I'm right.
