"Mayweather has already point blank said he won't come over to Manchester or anywhere in England for the fight so - if we have to go to America for him - then we will be happy to do so but we'll do it when we are ready and not before."

That's my favourite quote from the link you provided. What's yours?

        • To be fair to Hatton, not trying to make excuses, but the HBO deal he signed was not to fight Mayweather, I think HBO wanted Hatton to take USA by storm so they could promote the fight better, more money. Sadly this went wrong in the first two fights and he did fantastic in the 3rd fight but HBO didn't do Hatton any favours. Mayweather was asked before to fight in Manchester and priced himself out. Hatton has done the same before. But a intresting quote by Ray Hatton today.

Ray Hatton, Ricky’s father and business manager, said: “If the two boxers sat down we could probably agree it straight away, it’s the people that get in between the boxers that create problems. We have a little problem over the next two weeks in court [Frank Warren, the promoter, is suing Ray Hatton for libel], but after that we would be happy to talk.”
So don't take what fights and people who are close to fighters so litrally, its a shame things get in the way of making these great fights these days. You never know what people have offered each other, whats in the contract, finding honest answers in boxing is a rare occurance.

He said: "Richard needs the experience of training aboard for a fight for the very first time, getting used to that, he needs to have the experience of doing everything the American television and media will expect him to do, getting used to the different time zones, fighting in front of an American crowd - all that.

              OR..

Mayweather has always been very high up the agenda for us; but we still want one or two fights in America before we get to Mayweather

              OR...

"And I don't want him to have to deal with all that for the very first time and fight someone like Mayweather as well. Richard isn't a big head, he's got no ego on him, and he will tell you himself that Mayweather is the biggest danger out there for him

How many fights did Tszyu get to get "used to the different time zones".. or to the British crowds?

              • Mozza,

Is it your admission that Mayweather has offered Hatton fights? And that Hatton has ducked them?

Tszyu had already fought in different time zones so presumably it was not something that was new to him. However, I don't see what the problem is with wanting to give yourself the best possible chance of victory. Hatton knows that if he is to beat Mayweather he is going to need the performance of his life coupled with a bit of luck so it would seem almost suicidal to jeopardise his chances in such an obvious way. I also reckon their were financial reasons behind the decision.

OK i'll answer this one, this is due, its excuse really, but british mentality over the years, British fighters don't do well in there first fights in the U.S. Happened to Hatton vs Collazo later on, and a virus caught from air conditioning vs Urango.

HBO Contract, i think they pulled the strings here.

Plenty, he was a Russian Aussie, he's had fights in Las Vegas, Australia, Moscow. They had the fight at American time, you think 2am was good for Ricky? they were fighting at American time for that fight.

My information is that the fight has never been that close to being made and that both camps saw the financial potential in the fight from the outset which is why neither camp was pushing for it heavily at the time.
