  • Castillo-Corrales I the greatest fight ever

They finally admitted it on HBO. Lampley said all of the experts he'd spoken to called it the greatest fight they ever saw. I remember saying the same immediately after the fight. That year, everybody was saying stuff like it was great but not even top 10. Give me a break. It was the best ever. Don't be mad just because you didn't see it live (although no night in boxing can ever top that one). Call it what it is.

Keep in mind, fights generally don't get the respect they deserve until years later, but if the experts already call it the best ever after 2 years, just think where it will be in 10 or 20. I don't think any fight will ever top this because there's nobody with more heart than Corrales and a better chin than Castillo. That's what made it so good.

    Kellerman also said so twice.

Sorry if it's a pointless thread. I just like pointing out what some of us have known since May 7, 2005.

I kinda felt the stoppage may have been a little premature.

Not too sure, but it was a great fight anyway.

I think the key phrase is "They ever saw". There are tons of fights I've seen on video or DVD that were great but it loses something when you already know that Frazier wins the first fight by decision and you already know that Ali gets dropped in the 15th.

So for me I totally agree its the greatest fight "I ever saw" but then again I am biased because I didn't know the outcome and that added to the excitement.

If I had seen some of the other great older fights live I might feel different or maybe not. As it stands Corrales-Castillo I is my absolute favorite.

Very good points. It does add something when you see it live. Still though, I'd heard about Bowe-Golota II several times, but when I saw it, I went wild years later. I just bring this up because that fight was on a couple nights ago and I had the SAME reaction again. My girl had never seen it nor my bro and they were lapping it up hardcore too. I think what you say should be considered, but a lot of people didn't see Corrales-Castillo I live. You gotta figure at least. Yet they're still saying it's the best ever almost unanimously from the way HBO puts it.

Ive always thought it was a top 10 greatest ever. Probably even top 5. But i dont think it was the #1 greatest prize fight ever.

People seem to forget that the fight was being BOOED in the 4th and 5th rounds. Lots of clinching.

Whats incredible is that even after some lackluster action, the next 5 rounds contained some of the best highlights ever recorded in the history of boxing.

WHat really surprised me was how little SHOWTIME talks about it, u know? Ud think they would show that off at ever oppurtunity. And after the fight they only said, "This fight will be remembered for years to come" and that was it. w/e, not that big a deal i guess.

                  Same with Pep-Sadler II??

What I mean by Live is "I dont know the result of the fight". So if someone doesn't know the result of Corrales-Castillo I then when they watch it, its the same as Live for them.

I'm just saying the Live thing MIGHT bias me since when I saw many others I was excited and greatly entertained but I still knew the outcome. I dont know how I would've felt if I saw them live.

But the true test could be this: If you are trying to convert a friend into a boxing fan, what fight would you put on? For me its Corrales-Castillo.
