Why Does Hatton Hold?

Rickys holding isnt really Hugging. He huggs some as do most fighters, but most of Hattons holding is part of his defense, he immobilizes his opponents arms, but still leaves himself open to throw punches.

Mayweather does the same thing, He catches right hand body shots under his left elbow and holds it while he throws counter uppercuts.

he has short arms. boxing on the outside for some1 with arms that short is a nightmare. he has to get close to pound the body and do his damage.

ricky hatton is 5'6" with a 65" reach. he cant do **** with that reach and that stature. he has to get close, and when he does, he clinches to neutralize their offense and so he can do his damage.

he really has no choice.

Yeah but that doesnt really make it right or anything. What kind of fighter has a style where holding is part of it? Even if you are short. You and alot of others say he clinches to neturalize there Offense but what kind of an excuse is that? Anyone can do that. Every fighter can hold to netuarlize the opponents Offense but they dont do it. Thats not a good reason. Infact, in boxing the trainers only tell you to hold when your in trouble and are badly hurt. Hatton does it as part of his boxing.

Floyd kind of uses his elbow but its really more of a chicken arm. Its not like he's ****ing it back and hitting you full force like he's in the UFC. He definatly does that but its still only a couple of times during a fight and its nothing like holding. It doesnt ever stop the action or even really bother the other fighter. Alot of fighters do dirty things but I and pretty much everyone else can take that. The #1 thing people dont want to see is holding and e****ally if you can tell that its part of your game plan

anyone can do that, yes. but like i said, ricky doesnt really have a choice. he has to get close, and he has to brawl. its not an excuses, its a legitimate reason. like i said before: HE DOESNT REALLY HAVE A CHOICE.

besides, its not like he dived in and clinched for no reason like john the bum ruiz, like he did against urango.

I thought he worked well inside, a little holding from both fighters but not even enough for the ref to step in more the a few times. That got close threw punches, held, threw punches, stepped away. he was fine tonight or at least I thought.

true...its just part of his inside work in most cases. there is the odd hug though, but i guess he's just an affectionate guy.

hatton's style won't ever be considered entertaining to a lot of people, but i personally enjoy watching his rugged semi-dirty aggressive style
