  • Why Does Hatton Hold?

This is not a hater thread but real talk. Even the most die hard Hatton fans have to admit that he does it way too much. In his last 3 fights he has done it more then alot of these elite guys have done in there whole career. The bad thing about it is that he doesnt need to do it. He's a very good fighter. Ruiz needs to do it because he pretty much sucks and has no skill. Hatton may be the one of the most exciting fighters of our era if he didnt hold. He has some skills to box and he has great inside skills. He should be just like a Chico or Castillo. He can fight that same exact way without holding.

It almost seems like kind of a punk move because he just jumps in with the first 2 or 3 punches and then grabs you before you can respond. Then he still punches you in the clinch and spins you off. Then it starts again. You have to give him credit for manhandling big strong guys like Tszyu & Castillo but still. Its ugly to watch. It makes you mad because in between the holding he is a exciting fighter but now its almost like non stop holding. Why does he do that? His corner never says anything to him so I think Grahm must be teaching him that. The only time you should hold like that is when your in trouble.

I dont remember him always being like that. I thought it was great the way he fought. Does he do this in sparring? Its strange. Its almost like UFC stuff. He'll also try to say its not true if you ask him about it. I just dont get it. The guy has skills and is a good figher. He doesnt need to do that. What do the Hatton fans think about it? I also think its pretty dangerous if you run up on the right guy because he jumps in alot. At 147 against the stronger guys and bigger punchers, it could make him walk right into trouble

Why did Floyd use to elbow so much?

From what I saw tonight it was just as much Castillo as it was Hatton.

Ricky's hit and hold is just as bad as when Floyd used to punch and push or fend off with his elbow.

He imposes his strenth on his opponents. He has the advantage against pretty much anybody if he keeps it in the trenches, it's just his style, it nullifies alot of disadvantages he might have. I dont think there's anything wrong about it.

Ricky reminds me of John Ruiz and I swear I'm not joking here.

                1) He's shot

                2) He struggles more to make 140 these days and so when he eats that greasy full English breakfast on the morning of the fight it goes right into his system (****s him)

He doesn't seem as strong or smooth as in years gone by and that's because his coordination and balance is messed up. He also has bad hips and so can't use as much lateral movement on the inside like he did pretty much all his life, and he has an elbow problem that doesn't allow him to extend and so he can't box at range as effectively as a few years back, so there is an element that he just has to hold or get knocked out

To be fair Floyd does that once or twice in a fight, Ricky holds every 15 seconds, big difference!
