    Castillo's purse to be withheld!

A Nevada Federal Judge today has granted an attachment in favor of Gary Shaw Productions and Diego Corrales’s Estate of up to $1,200,000 of any monies to be paid to Jose Luis Castillo. As a result, Castillo will receive $0 for Saturday's Ricky Hatton fight. Shaw and Corrales sued Castillo after he failed to make weight for their rubber match in June 2006. The case has not come to trial, but boxing attorney Judd Burstein was successful in having Castillo's purse held in escrow pending the resolution of the lawsuit.

This is major bull****....... if anything it should be Toprank who should be the one absorbing the blow for not allowing castillo to move up when he wanted to many years before. This makes me sick.
If this is what's going on talk about a "distraction!"

How is he supposed to concentrate and stay motivated under these circumstances???

They could have at least waited to take this action until it was over - if possible..

This is pure ****. Are lawyers now running boxing? Pure ****, I don't think Diego would ever allow something like that done to his fellow boxer, even if he did screw up their 3rd fight. Sue him all you want but don't ****ing destroy him (mad).

This is pretty damn sad news. Still, I don't think Castillo is going to react to this by quitting like so many are suggesting. I would not be surprised if this turns out to be an even better fight now than it was going to be before.

If you were Castillo and you just received this news, wouldn't you want to win this fight and set up some huge paydays to bail yourself out of this mess? Please, Castillo is a ****ing fighter to his very core. He is not going to turn to something else to make a living and I don't believe he is a quitter.

He is not going to quit but I know this will effect the fight.. Imagine fighting knowing in the back of your mind that your not getting payed a cent and your risking your life out there.. Its a downer. I doubt he will give it his 110% This is also bad for Hatton.. Hatton haters can and will use this as an excuse if Castillo loses. On the other hand if Castillo wins it will make him look reall good.. Still this is some sad ****, I'm pissed... Its *******s like those who are ruening the sport!

does anyone think the timing is complete bull****, shouldn't they have done this after the fight!?!?! instead of take all the wind out of his sails????

i wonder if ( now i'm just saying because the whole thing seems shady, especially with the timing of it all) but i wonder if and i'm asking too, does anyone think that hatton's people could have been pressing the issue? because, like i said, the timing couldn't have been any worse.

i will say this much, if the fight does go on and hatton does win, in any fashion, it's going to take away from the performance. I DON'T THINK THAT HATTON WOULD DO ANYTHING LIKE THAT, but then again it isnt up to him, it's the people around him..........

or was it shaw trying to **** up castillo because of the two fiasco's on the scales?????? it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it was either one...............

I highly doubt Hatton had anything to do with it.. But I agree the timing is shady.. I think they planned it this way, Maybe Shaw has something to gain if he losses?

Promoters in boxing are F'ing ruthless so it would not surprise me to find out Gary Shaw had alot to do with this.

I don't believe Hatton would have any part of this. It does not seem to fit his personal character, it would hurt his growing popularity with Mexican fans, and it will be used as the numero uno excuse for castillo if he were to lose.

I would only expect to see Hatton try to hit low, or clip castillo with his elbows if he is really worried about losing. This ****...no way.

I don't know man. If I were Castillo I would seriously consider sending everything to hell.

                      If im Castillo,

I feel some losses caused by cuts set me back big time.
I feel I got cheated from my Floyd win.
I feel I got screwed by the ref in the Corrales vs Castillo 1 fight
I feel I got screwed by top rank for letting gary shaw and corrales sue me for the third fight when top rank was the company that didnt let me move up many years even before corrales.
I miss my 250,000 dollars i got fined for that also
and Now they are holding my check and I might not get a single penny....
All of this after all the great fights I have given.

Id be pretty disillusioned with boxing.

Hell im disillusioned as fan, you imagine a guy that does this as his life.
