I was very impressed with Dirrell's performance. What you have to understand is who his opponent was. Curtis Stevens is a man who hits with the epitamy of conviction. He came in what, 15 pounds heavier than Dirrell? ....He'll knock your head off with one shot. The one style to nullify that kind of power is a rangy pure boxer with good reflexes, and that's just what Dirrell is. Stevens touched gloves with a look of respect on his face for that last round. Because he knew that Dirrell bested him without taking any damage and that deserves respect when you're dealing with a man who can truly hurt you like Stevens. Dirrell executed the sweet science perfectly and beautifully, who cares what a bunch of bloodthirsty drunken fans think.
At times, he did run, but that's what you have to do to get out. The way he prevented Stevens from cutting off the ring, was BEAUTIFUL. When his escape route was outside of his lead hand, he would use the lead hook and escape so swiftly. Then, switch to conventional if needed, to put that escape route outside of that lead hand. Use the lead hook and use the momentum generated by the hook to escape, it's what you do in there vs a killer....Respect it..Last edited by SquareCircle; 06-18-2007, 01:22 PM.Comment
