I never forgot that about him.
That's cool. He's defintely a fighter that I would like to meet. The guy was a great amateur & a good fighter. I think he won a gold medal too. He was a tall middleweight.

He was the only USA Gold Medal winner in 1988 and was the next big thing until he was matched with Czyz at 175. Czyz was thought to be done and he commenced to schooling Maynard and stopping him. Maynard should have never hooked up with Ray Leonard, imo that was his downfall and he was not seasoned enough before fighting Bobby Czyz, and I think that fight ruined him.

Yeah I remember the Czyz fight & when I was a kid & I thought that he wasn't ready for such a veteran yet. If I remember correctly he was the NABF champ but had like 13 or 14 fights. Hey Ice do you remember this fight???

Drew won the Olympics at 178 back in 1988. I think as a pro it was Mike Sedillo that he beat for the NABF crown. Czyz was a BIG step for him at the time they fought, kind of like Hamsho was for the young Czyz whenTHEYfought

Actually team USA had three Golds that year...Andrew, Mercer and Mckinney...four if you feel like counting Roy Jones

The Roy Jones fight was horribly judged. One of the worst decisions I ever saw.

The Roy Jones olympic final in 1988 might very well be the single worst decision in boxing history, amateur or pro
