Hatton Has Turned Down The Pbf Fight Three Times

Coyote Duran: I can see how that would work in the end but you'd think now that Ricky Hatton would feel like he was wasting his time against a Carlos Maussa since he beat the real champion.

Frank Warren: I would've thought so. I mean, prior to that fight, I had offered him the (WBO titlist Miguel) Cotto fight. I had offered him (WBC titlist) Floyd Mayweather. Even Don King and I spoke about (Undisputed Welterweight Champion) Zab Judah. But when he went out to Atlantic City to see the Maussa fight, he wanted the Maussa fight. To me, it's a belt and I can understand, as a fighter, that he'd want that belt, but let's be honest about it. Kostya Tszyu vacated that title and Ricky Hatton beat Kostya Tszyu. So, on the same list as Joe Calzaghe, he was the #1 by Ring magazine. Who cares about that (WBA belt)?

Coyote Duran: Right. Hatton doesn't need Maussa's belt. He's the man.

Anybody who gives a reply in the same ilk as yours is clearly delusional. Hatton is a bigger draw than Calzaghe in the UK and a Hatton PBF fight over here would easily sell 50,000 tickets, probably alot more add to that the PPV sales and you have a winner. Plenty of people would love to see that fight and to imply that Hatton is not worthy of the fight is plainly ridiculous.

Mayweather beat Corrales, Castillo, Gatti, Baldomir, Judah and De La Hoya. Hatton needs more names like that on his record in order for fight fans to want to see it happen.
Part of the problem is that Hatton has too many names like Baldomir on his record! Judah was coming off a loss (and was already considered damaged goods after getting wrecked by Kostya Tszyu who is on Hatton's record), and De La Hoya has only just happened... If you were to be fair after July Hatton would have Tszyu who crushed Judah, Castillo, a whole troop of Baldomirs. He'd be lacking a Corrales, de la Hoya and of course a Gatti fight (Who is, according to Floyd's judgement, only a C grade fighter anyway), all of which he could well make up for in the next five fights.

If Hatton can arrange fights with Cotto and Mayweather (and maybe De La Hoya) within his next four bouts he will have a resume to be proud of.

As for whose fault it was that Mayweather and Hatton never met in the ring, we know that Hatton's team asked for a large sum to fight Mayweather, and we also know that this was revealed by Mayweather himself. Lacking in this revelation were details of the original offer, details of any counter-offer by Mayweather, or any other details apart from the 7 million pound request made by Ricky Hatton to defend his title at 140 lbs. This suggests that there was no real attempt at negotiation by either party, so my conclusion is that neither party wanted the fight at that time.

Father and business manager openly admitted the turned down the chance to at least negotiation for a Mayweather fight in 2004. "That was the one fight, style wise, which I thought we needed a few more fights before taking," said father Ray Hatton. "But now Ricky has gone up to the top level with Tszyu and got the big win, there's no-one I wouldn't put him in with and not feel confident that he'd beat."

And we all know Frank Warren is an up-front guy who harbours no resentment towards Hatton given that he left him just as he started to make a name for himself in the US.

The source of the quote is Frank Warren, shortly after Hatton fired him as a manager. Warren is notoriously bitchy, he's not exactly going to give you a straight answer.

Hatton turned down Floyd twice, Hatton's papa said my son needs 1 or 2 more year to fight Floyd. Do the math!

I'm sure both fighters mucked this up from happening. There was probably a point a few years ago, before Mayweather was pound for pound king and so highly respected, when he wanted to fight Hatton. Ricky's camp has admitted they turned him down in the past because they did not feel he was ready for Floyd yet. That means Ricky is at fault.

All the same I'm sure recently Ricky has wanted a crack at Floyd and now Mayweather has no interest in it as he sees Hatton as a small money fighter whom won't supply the fight with enough cash flow. So now Pretty Boy won't take the fight. That part is Floyd's fault.

As it was said earlier in the thread- it takes two to tango. Neither man wanted it at the same time and now I'd be shocked if it ever happened.

And Ray Hatton is biased against Ricky also.....right?

Everybody is lying on Ricky. Poor Ricky.

When Ricky came to the States, he said that he wanted one to two tune-ups before he fought Mayweather. How's that working out for him?

Side note: an active, current, 28 yr old CHAMPION asking for MULTIPLE tune-ups. Interesting.
