it gets zero attention cuz people think its a fixed and boring sport. there are plenty of reason boxing shouldnt be popular. i named just a few a few posts ago.

if we had more knockouts, no santioning bodies, more exciting fights and more megafights, that at least would be a huge step up for boxing.

but thats just wishful thinking on my part.

I agree. If it was on ABC we're talking top 5 most popular sport again.

Boxing will never be major again unless it goes back to having fights on National TV like CBS, Fox, or NBC. In the 80's you could always see a Leonard or Hearns fight on CBS. Think about that? Thats just like the Super Bowl. Instead, we put the Super Bowl on PPV. Thats what killed the sport.

HBO, Showtime, and ESPN are all solid but there is nothing like seeing a big time fight on basic television. You put these fights back on the major networks and it will be huge again. The problem is that fighters make much more money nowdays and you cant make that fighting on those channels

But i definetly think this will do the sport good.

I think it COULD be a mainstream sport again, but it would take decades.

IMO, it'll remain a NICHE sport until someone is really able to bring the sport back again, whether it be a heavyweight or a middlweight.

And we have HUNDREDS of promising prospects
          Won't comeback until theres a TYRANT/KING.

People want to see someone Bring Order and stop all the confusion in boxing, Wether they Root for the guy or wish death upon him.

When theres someone that can stand above the rest and talk **** and also back it up in the ring. Does and says what he wants.Takes any fight. and Knocks heads off. Someone that Loves the world and does lots of things good..not just for boxing but outside of the ring.Has Morals. Good speaking skills. nice personality. And wins fights anyway he can.

Basically Good guy Bad guy. No one cares about boxers just winning fights.. because then valuev's little run would have been HUGE. If valuev acted as a TYRANT then the world would have noticed him.. but his run is over and only a boxing fan can really recognize him.

EDISON MIRANDA is the only one I see with the potential to be a TYRANT... and he doesn't even have it all the way yet. Until we have one Clear Destroyer or Savior Boxing will Remain the way it is I think.

Boxing should take a lesson from the contender and DLH/Mayweather 24/7. Reason we were glued to the contender is because they sold the fighters as more than just that. We knew were they were comming from and what was at stake in the ring when they fought. When casual boxing fans watch, they don't really know whats at stake unless there is a belt involved. All they know is that there is a winner and loser at the end of something that is designed to entertain. Boxing is a action drama unfolding in the ring, without knowing what is at stake there is no drama, just a 12rd replay of every other fight. As die hard fans we know about the behind the scenes of these fighters, their characteristics and attributes like; heart, hunger, ego; their backgrounds, where they are comming from and what pushes them to fight. Boxing is about two fighters forged by their experiences in life that is unleashed in the ring. The greatest fights for me are between fighters that have been equally forged and skilled. Boxing bares its heart and soul when the fighters show their metal. 12 rounds of blood sweat tears, battered and tired, mentally, physically and emotionally. This is why MMA will never be greater than boxing. Aint nobody twisting your arm in boxing, aint no tapping out in boxing, if you throw in the towel or let your legs go out from under you without a struggle, its because you did not have the heart or pride to go 12 hard rounds. It is what seperates a tomato can from a contender and a champion from all the rest. The stakes are high in the boxing ring and people should know what is at stake in a fight that means everything to the fighters who have decided to put bread on their tables through their fists. When people can relate to the fighters they will relate to boxing.

I dont think so, I think it was typical De La Hoya style hype and it didnt deliver. Oscar's fans are unfortunately just that, oscars fans and they only watch when he fights.

I wonder if things would be different if HBO never got that new owner person that, from what I heard anyways, isen't too hott on boxing, if he was I'm uber sure more tools would be used to capture the imagination of the general crowd rather than the casual+ boxing people

                  My .02 on the matter:

There are too many divisions for the casual fan to keep track of. That makes it really hard for the casual fan to think about who they want to see fight each other. It seems absurd to have 3 divisions at or below 120. Namely because I find the idea of a man being that small naturally crazy!

Fighters don't get out there and make themselves visible to the rest of the world too much. I think it would help if we had more events. Like that crap that Tyson did last year, boxing tours and stuff. That would be really cool imo. DHL is pretty popular because he is a great boxer, but he is also known for more than that. We can't expect all boxers to be so mult italented, but it would help if people had a clue who some of them were.

Boxing is all about money these days rather than glory. That's why there aren't near as many new fans coming in and why casual fans get so disgruntled.
