Induct Chico Into the Hall of Fame Right Away

The IBHOF is not a place that should be for meaningless gestures, it should be a place that rewards people on the stregth of their careers rather than on an unfortunate young death. It's disrespectful to all those greats in the hall to enshrine someone purely on the basis of death.
Who is the serial killer you mention?Comment

The crux of the matter is that suggesting Corrales be enshrined in the IBHOF simply because he died, and in violation of the five year waiting period that legends like Lennox Lewis have to endure is not realistic or clever. It cheapens what should be a real honour (cheapened already to some degree unfortunately).Comment

I'm not in charge of the IBHOF. If I was I wouldn't let Jenkins, Fenech and Corrales in.

I know what a gesture is. Gestures are not supposed to be the way of a Hall of Fame. Such institutions are based on recognising outstanding careers, though that aim may have been slightly subverted of late.Comment

Chico is one of my all-time faves, but I can't justify putting him in the Hall, much less waving the 5-year eligibility rule for him
He had a good, very exciting career, but was just short of great. I know the bar has been lowered and I'm sure he'll get in eventually. But asking the HOF to put him in now is an overreaction to a tragic event.
If they haven't already done so, perhaps a section (or at least a plaque) commemorating his incredible first fight w/ Castillo.Comment

if chico ever really is HOF material, i think the 5yr waiting period can be fastracked or waived since there's no more possibility of him unretiring right?Comment

With no disrespect to Diego "Chico" Corrales, RIP Chico I loved watching you throw ya hands, and you seemed like a great dad to grow up around.
However, it would be a disrespect to other inductees if Diego was inducted, because he was not hall of fame material. I'm sorry. It wasn't just losing to Floyd. It was winning on a technicality vs Castillo the first time, getting blown out the second time, and then losing vs Clottey, look, I know he accumulated lots of damage from the first Castillo bout, but that gives him no excuse to lose to Clottey, again this sounds harsh but again I remind you we're talking about whether or not he walks the walk of great champions of yesteryear.
I think SHOWTIME's BOXING CREW should do a special on Chico, and have all his fights loaded onto 1 or 2 hours of programming, some of his great amateur moments would be good to see as well. Since Chico is SHOWTIME'S fighter, they should do this for their fallen champion.Comment
