First of all Congratulations to Floyd Mayweather, i didnt give my prediction on the fight because i couldnt be bothered to get heat over it, i went with PBF by late tko. (although i also saw ways for DLH to win)
As i have said in earlier posts this week, after this fight, people need to re-evaluate the relationship between puching power and weight.
People keep making the mistake of assuming that when a lighter man moves up in weight he loses power, rather than gains it, i belive this is wrong, i believe it depends on the individuals muscle structure and physique.
Mayweather clearly has the muscle mass to fight at 154 and hurt people, im told he hurt De La Hoya several times in this fight, and thats totally what i expected. Before i give the reasons why i wanna give a few 'shout outs'.
Super Cartel, Kendal Holt, Paulie Mallinaghi, and some others who's names im going to edit into this thread clearly understood the relationship.
The Kendal Holt prediction on boxing scene was spot on, SPEED IS POWER. In my eyes there is a difference between 'one punch power', which PBF doesnt have much of at 154, and 'accumilation power' of which he has plenty.
As i have said since my arrival here, if somebody hits you quicky and repeatedly in the same areas, it translates into power, any fighter can be hurt under these circumstances. Holt said words to this effect.
''If somebody hits hits you with quick combinations in bunches and bunches, it does tend to hurt''.
Of course, this works both ways, if Mayweather now tries to boil down to 140,he could lose power and speed through unhealthy procedures of losing weight, like toney and jones. Weight loss is one of the most dangerous things in boxing, losing weight through dehydration and then taking hard punches to head, is a major factor in deaths in the ring. Therefore, if PBF was to go back down in weight, he might lose power, dont assume he will be able to knock guys out again.
On the fight itself, i havent seen it, i listened to the thing live, im looking forward to watching it, the fight highlights a clear cut problem with boxing,
Scoring.
Credit to the BBC who were ringside for giving us an insight into what many people feel was an attempt to screw mayweather, how one judge can have it 116-112 and another 115-113 for the other guy says it all.
No consistency in judging, and boxing is still riddled with dodgy dealings,
I now think open scoring is needed, i dont care about suspense, open scoring would have let everyone know the scoring was taking a wrong turn and something wrong was clearly going on, on the cards.
Credit to De La Hoya, seems he gave PBF problems, but it also seemed PBF fought the wrong tactics early on, ill get to that if and when i see this fight.
So thats my take on things, does this fight change the way you judge power and speed in relation to weight?
