Nobody said it was a fluke (I dont think). Just that Haye got his gameplan wrong and Thompson got his right.
Haye Makes a Heavyweight Statement in Win

I think a lot of people are being unfair to haye, i think he could beat a lot of heavyweights out there, and he is not **** you don't win the euro title by being ****, i hope he proves a lot of you wrong by beating mormeck then winning the heavyweight title.Comment

maybe he doesn't do the basics exactly as standard, but it would be a very dull sport if all boxers did. haye goes into the ring expecting to ko his opponent - thats his style and its what he does best. the only time hes been the distance is when he was apparently restricted to a few rights per round so he could get in more rounds and work on his stamina. Are you kidding me? Haye is not very good. Here's a copy of my post from another forum:
Another very respectable poster from here gave a similar and slightly more detailed analysis. Don't expect this guy to compete with the top dogs at HW. He just doesn't know how to box nearly well enough.
With that said it was an exciting moment, last night's fight.
as for that analysis, i've rewatched the fight about 4 times and only noticed one hook in the first minute. i don't think haye got hit cleanly once, and his jab looked pretty vicious to me. is that analysis on the basis of his career to date or just the last fight? because judging a fighter on 1 and a half minutes of boxing where he dropped his opponent 3 times, and then basically calling him **** is complete ****in ridiculousness.Comment

How do you guys think he'd fare against the top British HWs? Forget the world-class guys, it's silly even to mention those. But against:
Skelton? (I'd pick Skelton in a decision, but maybe Haye by KO)
AH? (I'd take Haye by slaughter)
Sprott? (late KO maybe for Haye, if he has stamina)
Williams (depends how muchthe old man has left, but this a toss up maybe)
Anyway you green teef f.ags would know better than IComment

To be honest, if he were to fight them now, I'm not sure.
But if he were to fight any of them a couple of bouts down the line, I'd expect him to knock them all out, pretty early.
That might be more that I'm completely unimpressed by the current crop of British Heavyweights though.Comment

Agreed, sort of. Skelton's not the athlete Haye is, but at least he moves his head and throws proper combinations. It's not going to be easy for the dish. But what you mention is also hard, since he can't drop now to fighting a few tomato cans, he's going to have to step up not down.To be honest, if he were to fight them now, I'm not sure.

the latter three are all very ko'able. skelton appears to have a decent chin though and so is the major threatHow do you guys think he'd fare against the top British HWs? Forget the world-class guys, it's silly even to mention those. But against:

stamina is still the major concern for haye. if he can't knock em out can he go the distance with anyone above average and still win?Comment
