those lands of Nagorno-Karabagh were lands belonging to Armenians and were mostly occupied by Armenian-Azeris. There was a war between Armenians and Azeris in the early 90's and we won our lands back. Simple as that.

The Britannica is wrong, it was 1.5 million and perhaps more because most Armenians living in the Ottoman Empire changed their name and religion to be Turkish to avoid being massacred as Armenians. They were still uncovered and killed but listed as Turks, or other races.
