Offers & calling people out in boxing is all posture, unless it gets past the initial stages into negotiations, when a man backs out, then there is no real cowardice. Seriously how many times have you seen guys get called out and have their managers & promoters say "we offered ________ this much to fight, and he turned it down" only to see the other camp say they offered them the fight. Its ridiculous to call someone a coward because someone extended an offer and management turned it down.

A lot of people seem to think Darchinyan has made his career fighting smaller nobodies.

Darchinyan has no trouble making weight that I have heard - if he had that would of definitely made the press - so that makes him a natural flyweight.

Coming up he probably only faced 2 good contenders:
      - Wandee Singwangcha, who'd fought some pretty good opposition & was 39-5 at the time, fighting him twice in his 18th & 21st bouts, KO'ing him in rounds 4 & 5;
      - & Alejandro Felix Montiel, 48-5, in his 19th, who'd dropped decisions to Pacheco & Mark Johnson, & lost to Darchinyan by a wide decision as well
(pretty sure he's the brother of Fernando).

Darchinyan then went on to win the title via 11th round TKO over Irene Pacheco, widely regarded as the best in the division at the time by most, & top 3 by all.

He's also defended the title 6 times in a little over 2 years, against the best contenders they could get in the ring with him.

Two of them are definitely among the best contenders in the division:
      - Luis Maldonado, 33-0-1 at the the time. His one draw was against Cristian Mijares, the guy who just thrashed Arce.
Darchinyan KO'd him in 8, dominating him in the process.

      - Diosdado Gabi, 26-2-1 at the the time, & trained by Freddie Roach.
Darchinyan TKO'd him in 8, although Gabi made a fight of it while it lasted.

Gabi in his next fight blasted out the well respected Mauricio Pastrana in less than a round. Pastrana had gone the distance with Rafael Marquez, although was KO'd in 7 the 2nd time around.

As for Victor Burgos, against any other title holder in the division, it would be regarded as a very legitimate fight, with his experience giving him a solid chance of pulling it off.
He's a former title holder with wins over some bloody good fighters for chist's sake.

RE: the Fernado Montiel bally-hoo-ha, sounds like Gary Shaw might be worried because of the Arce loss.

Similar situation - big name fighter moving up to challenge a relatively unknown champion, & Shaw's invested a fair bit in building up Darchinyan
      - but I think the comparison ends there.

Have no doubt Darchinyan's power will travel up with him, probably atleast to Bantam, & he's shown that he can deal with skilled boxers previously (Pacheco, Maldonado, Gabi).

If Shaw's worried about top super-fly's, get Darchinyan a warmup with a solid super-fly contender & bill it as the warmup for Castillo, Montiel or Mijares.

Just do it quickly please, as I want to see Darchinyan face Mijares or the winner of Nobuo Nashiro & Munoz within a year.

at this point, VIC is a bigger name than Montiel and brings more excitement to the table, so since you dont know any of the details on the $$$$, dont talk **** out of ur ass.

VIC said he will fight Montiel or any other champion, but at this point in his career (already 31) VIC needs to have decent (not incredible) paydays. He obviously was not gonna get decent money with Montiel's people (money hungry GPB).

and for the record, VIC WILL KO Montiel before 10.
Montiel is the biggest name at 115 bro.

As is stated in the article it was turned down by Gary Shaw after an offer with no details was made. So first of all you are taking a boxing promoters word as gospel. BIG mistake.

There was not even a REAL offer made by the sounds of it. How can you offer a fight with absolutely no details about money, venue, timeframe, weight or anything else. This just sounds like Gomez trying to get one of his fighters names in the papers as there has been alot of hype around Vic lately and with Arce getting beat they figured they could get some press.

The only coward is you writing BS like that about someone you don't know, saying **** you would never say to their face from behind a keyboard. Grow up muppet!

That Vid in your SIG is straight insult to Boxing everywhere.. Thats horrible.

****in ***get ass punk ttried to jump out the ring.... Good he got hit.

True. And to get the respect he should fight the best available. But..... we see he is trying to make excuses why NOT to fight him. Tell you what bro's. Fans quickly lose respect for these types of fighters very quickly.
