Beez, besides the current title holders, who do you think deserves a shot and will entertain the boxing fans at the same time? If Holyfield is granted a shot then I'm possitive that it will be competitive fight that will entertain fans. For his first defense, I'm not sure Chagaev wants to step in with Wlad or Briggs.

well,,,,unfortunately there arent any world beaters out there I can really think of,,,but I still cant fathom holyfield who was battered badly the last 2 times he got in there with top 20 heavyweights in donald and toney. povetkin still needs experience. I think thompson would deserve a shot over holyfield even though his only real meaningful win was over dom quinn. juan carlos gomez is another guy that would be more competitve than holyfield. he's underrated in my opinion even though he had that horrible loss to diaz. brewster had the hard fought loss to serge but still almost took him out and has a win over wlad. I'd put those guys in front of holyfield

Agree with most of the comments.
Chagaev a very good boxer/puncher who is improving steadily.

Biggest mark against him is size - how can he do against a big guy with the speed & skills of Wladimir?
Think Chagaev's got the skills to deal with most of the rest, but Wlad's the sticking point, & would favour him in a fight.
Feel that Wlad's experience & reach combined with his excellent jab would be too much for Chagaev to overcome.

Agree that Peter would be 50/50 as well as being probably the best Heavyweight fight out there.

Really hope some-one puts it together, but think we'll probably see him against some-one like Krasniqi for the first defence, which would sell quite well in Germany, then a rematch with Valuev.

Then hopefully we'll see him against Peter.

PS. Chagaev has been in with a puncher.
He beat Vladamir Virchis, 20-0 with 17KO's at the time, now 22-1 with 19KO's, by majority decision.
Virschis is a big guy with pretty good handspeed & skills, as well as excellent power.

Chag looked very good against Valuev's big slow ass, Chag has nice speed great boxing skills and proved with Valuev that he can fight inside to out in a way that only the greats can and im not sayin he is a great or anything but the way he countered Valuev from the inside and landed those solid left hooks on the outside was great, also his defense while not complicated at all looked real good from my standpoint as Valuev was only able to really land if anything solid jabs!

As for Valuev damn if the dude could change his pace and not PACE the whole fight he could have done damage but his big ass stayed on the same level the whole fight never seeming to get angry and go for the KO

I thought Valuev did step it up in the last 4 rounds, doing some damage, but he's just not an angry kind of guy.
Also starts getting un-co-ordinated if he tries too hard.

Thought Valuev lost the fight in the first 7 rounds - only winning 2.
Seemed to be trying too hard to box, as well as being a little wary of Chagaev's power. By the time he just started bulling his way in he needed pretty well every round, & didn't quite manage it.

            Good fight I thought.

PS. At first didn't think Chagaev didn't have too much of a chance against Wlad, based on reach,, speed & experience, but then remembered the Corrie Sanders fight
            - Klitchko completely unable to see a fast lead left coming, a punch Chagaev does pretty well. Imagine they've worked on that in his camp, but makes a fight very interesting in my eyes.

            Maybe Chagaev could unify.

Corrie Sanders was also 6"4, only 2 inches or so shorter than Wlad with a comparable reach. Chagaev is only about 6"1, if that. Also the Wlad who lost to Sanders was much less experienced and not yet the great fighter he has become. I'd say it would be a close match early on but I'd say Wlad would KO Chagaev in round 7th if they fought.

well 46 other fighters couldn't do it....

I think he had a perfect game plan and executed with near perfection.

the wlad that fought sanders was also going through girl troubles. klitschko admitted to not training as well as he normally did. distractions in training camp, as well as in the ring. not to mention he thought he could simply walk right over sanders.

ever since then, i've noticed that he is more focused in training and studies his opponent more. he's also more carefull and focused in the ring.

wladimir said after the sanders fight that he will never underestimate an opponent again, or let outside influences distract him in his training, preparation, and fighting.
