If they put him in with the winner of Briggs-Ibragimov, then yes he can unify titles. But the IBF is with Wlad, and the WBC is tied up for the rest of the year and will likely end up around either Peter or Vitali. Those would make extremely difficult fights for this guy.
I doubt it. He looked good, but Valuev was slow and easy to hit. Im not sold on him yet, and we all know that Don King even said more or less that the tournament will start once all of his fighters win.
Chagaev is a solid all-round boxer: he's fast and strong, and has good but not great technical skills. But I doubt if he can beat Wlad, who's faster than Valuev and punches harder. Ruslan would likely beat Briggs, and probably defeat Ibrigimov in a tough fight. He would have about a 50-50 chance against Peter, and that would be a really good fight.
How would you say Chagaev compares with Lyakhovich? (Something was bady wrong with L. in his fight against Briggs, still he was handily beating him, and then it was as if he deliberately lost - what's up with him lately anyway?)

I'm certain Chagaev would defeat him. Lyakhovich is a technically skillful boxer but doesn't have the strength in his punches to KO anyone with a fairly good chin, and I think his own chin is suspect, as an exhausted Briggs revealed in that fight. Chagaev's amateur record was far superior to Lyakhovich's. And Sergei hasn't been fighting often enough the past few years to keep himself in top form.
I agree Chagaev is the better boxer, but not that SL's chin is suspect. That's Shannon Briggs who caught an exhausted SL with clean right hands. Anyone else would have gone down as well.
Chagaev is a boxer with an outstanding resume. He had defeated Savon twice. He is very skilled, can punch, and has a good chin.
What do you think?
Chagaev can perform very well went he wants to but I suspect his best performances were left back in the amateurs. He barely got past Valuev, and Valuev is not a highly skilled opponent, albeit his size can be tough to deal with. Wladimir Klitschko is a different kind of cat. Chagaev will have to make a substantial improvement if he wants any chance to beat Klitschko.

His corner was SCREAMING at him, just stay the f-k away from him. Ly. looked like s-t compared to his previous fights, but he still had the fight won, and he just ignored his corner and stood right in front of the incompetant but always-dengerous, Briggs as if he was deliberately trying to get himself knocked out!
