They can make way more money in their country then the US, plain and simple. That's why you don't see many Americans fighters in Europe or other countries, they make more money in the US.

It doesn't matter where you fight, its the competition you face.

Calzaghe will get criticised for the standard of his opponents, and thats fair enough, but he has fought in Germany and outside of Wales against hometown opponents plenty of times.

The US is not the only place you can make a career as a boxer, and I ****in worry when supposedly good posters on here get so insular. I mean is it genuinely true that less than 50% of Americans have a passport? Worrying I tell you.

                What do you mean?

Calzaghe was on his way to destroying Manfredo, it's not his fault that the referee thought Manfredo had enough.

yaman you're a bit of a sage on this site, but that is a BS comment which ignores the rest of the world. Fighting in Vegas/MSG is no doubt an ambition of many but for a lot of fighters there is little need to fight in the US. There is money and enterprise elsewhere in the world you know? in 30 years the US won't even be the biggest economy in the world...
What do you mean i'm a sage on this site?
You mentioned money and enterprise, but it's not about that. It makes him look like he fears fighting there, and only feels comfortable beating up US fighters with Hooligans supporting him. I'm not saying he should be fighting in Vegas everytime, but he should have fought an American opponent on American soil atleast once in a reign of 20 title defences. Do you think he would accept an offer from Hopkins, or any elite fighter, to come fight 'em in the states? That's my point.

America, **** yeah! Gonna save the mother ****ing day now! Americaaaa **** yeah! Gonna save the mother ****ing day now!

Yes, not many of us Americans own passports. It has to do with the American mentality. This is the greatest country, why go to Europe or anywhere else? There is a very ethnocentric, egotistical viewpoint from most Americans and you just happen to see it carry over to boxing. We think we're the best and everyone should fight here. I'll say it again- the great boxers fought around the world- Sugar Ray Robinson and Ali did. As an athlete you should chase achievement- not money. Seeking pure cash is what is killing boxing. These American fighters should line up to go tackle Calzaghe and Kessler in their backyards. They make a bigger name for themselves overseas and they prove they have the mentality to chase the "******* who stay in their backyards".
