'Moron' I, like most posters, here have watched videos of Dempsey, and no one with a cable subscription has 'just heard of' Ali and Marciano because ESPN Classic has shown more Ali than the History channel has Hitler. And Dempsey sure could defend himself, especially against a taller opponent with slowish hands.

Yeah but that is intelligence. We are talkin about things that have been shaped by the new technology in nutrition and how to work out the body and we also know more about how the body works these days.

I can guarantee Jack Dempsey was more physically fit than any heavyweight around today. People in general had better bodies and boxing training methods have changed very little in the past 100 years.

Yeah 6'1 being generous Ruiz closed the gap and was robbed.

*Bagpipes play danny boy for Valuev against Dempsey*

But boxing is not complicated. It has been around for millenia. Some people think self-defense is new.

I remember posters here claiming that shoulder rolling is a recent invention. They must never have heard the common expression 'roll with the punches' which shows that basic defensive moves in fighting have been common knowledge for a very very long time.

We can't really change each others opinions but to me it seems like Valuev would just be too big.

Right but you saw Valuev v.s. Ruiz didn't you?

Ruiz probably deserved the nod against Valuev and RWK agrees. Ruiz is no way near the class of a Dempsey. He would be too big indeed. Too big of a target for Jack. Trust me it would be brutal to watch.

Yes I did. But doesn't Ruiz outweigh Dempsey by like 45 pounds.
