Could Wilfredo Benitez beat Tito Trinidad? I think so.

He gave SRL fits. He put Hearns down (still lost). He beat Duran.

He was slippery and he can punch. Excellent foot speed.

Style wise, he would beat Trinidad, IMO. Maybe not by KO but by UD. If Oscar could put Tito on his heels, Benitez would work him.

The only problem with Benitez is his tendency to fight out of the corner.

    What say you old timers?

You're a lil confused. Tito is ranked as one of the all time great welterweights. At 147, it's a great fight...Tito pulls it off, imo. TKO or UD.

ike quartey, whitaker and oscar were the other best welterwights when he was around, he didnt fight 1, fought 1 oooooooooold man and lost to one.....what makes him such a great ww then??????/his 15 defenses of a tiltle he didnt even win from the TRUE champion?(Whitaker)

we all know his win over oscar was the one that legitimized his reign at welter and that decision was bs

not hating on tito but he is severly overrated...for me his greates win is vargas (great win, vargas was a beast)and he still managed to damage that one in my eyes with those low blows....not saying vargas wouldve won...just that them low blows were vicious, with bad intentions...

Yes, if Benitez was on his game.

Benitez was inconsistent and lazy in the gym.

I'll respect your opinion, but disagree with it. Yes, he did beat an aging Whitaker (as did Oscar before him); true he never faced Quartey, but did face Oba Carr and beat him before Oscar (and Quartey SD) beat him (and lets not forget that Oba Carr was a legit contender in those days), Beat a HOF (granted, a past his prime) Camacho, and undefeated monster in Yory Boy Campas, and a slew of undefeated contenders. Yes, I'll give you the DLH 'victory' cuz even I thought he lost it; but the fact remains that Oscar RAN those last few rounds and he did so for a reason: Tito was too dangerous to even risk fighting those last few rounds. So we wont ever know the true results of that fight, since Oscar got on his bicycle. (Mind you, I'm not saying that Tito would have caught him or not; it's just as well Oscar would have continued boxing and won the fight easily. But we will never know.)

Yes, he did hit Vargas low; and it was not the first time he hit a fighter low to gain some recovery. But you said yourself, that Vargas wouldnt have won; so the blows make no difference in the outcome of the fight. We're not talking about if you respect a fighter or not (I'm a fan of Tito's, but even I'm not crazy that he did that), it's who or who didnt he beat.

You make a good argument, and I respect that you actually were man enough to post an INTELLIGENT response, rather than make a ******ed comment, especially from a noob.

I look at it this way...Tito is usually ranked in boxing 'experts' top 10 all time welterweight rankings. Benitez usually isnt (at least not top 10). Imo, Tito can pull off the win if he catches him with that hook or pounds out a UD. But as another post stated, it Benitez is on his game (look at the Duran and Leonard fights) it's quite possible that he would pull it off. It's an intriguing matchup.
