lets not forget that mcline was whipping his ars until his knee gave out...He go lucky in that fight. We all know it would of been a loss.

Marciano did not pad his record. Once he made it to the big time he fought world class opposition. You may not know who Kid Matthews, Rex Layne, Lee Savold, Roland LaStarza and Carmine Vingo were but they were tried and tested contenders/talented prospects in their day. Marciano beat anyone he could get in front of him, and as champion he beat great P4P fighters in Charles and Moore. Keep in mind Marciano himself was only around 185 lbs or so, so it's not like he was a 220 lber beating on a middleweight Ezzard Charles.

The guy fought solid opposition, which makes the undefeated record truly remarkable. 5'10" 185 lbs, and he defeated some of the most skilled men to ever fight at heavyweight in Walcott, Moore, and especially Charles. They were a bit past it age wise, but so was Lennox Lewis when he did some of his best work.

Marciano did not fight the best level of opposition of any heavyweight champion, but it wasn't the worst either. Marciano gets crapped on too often in this forum by guys who know very little about the era and the guys he fought.

To compare his competition to Valuev is laughable. Valuevs only solid wins are controversial while the Rock beat much better men by brutal knockouts that cannot be argued with. I would rank the Louis Marciano beat as better than Donald or Ruiz. He was past his prime but as still a former all time great with something left in the tank.

You know, I'd compare Marciano's opposition to maybe Tyson of the 1980's. Not the best guys in history, but talented and dangerous men who were bowled over by a superior force of nature.

Ive been as critical on valuev as anyone but it didnt look like he was going to lose that fight

gents....did we forget that fight so fast....Mcline was hiting him flush with combinations...it was gift to valuev. No rematch because valuev new that he would not have come by this victory so easily.

secondly...if wlad or his brother get a hold of valuev..we will see the end of his run.
