Marciano's record was also padded, the big names on his record were past their best. The division he dominated was no stronger in depth than it is today.
But padding a record indicates an intentional action of avoiding certain fighters.Which Marciano never did..He fought and beat all the top heavyweights of his era.Valuev isn't doing that..He's not fighting any Klitschko's,Peters,Toney's,ETC.Although I agree with you somewhat,If Valuev breaks the record,he should get some credit for it.

none of todays heavyweights will compare favourably to old time fighters until they have one belt and throw don king off a cliff.

Another accurate comment, especially the Don King part.

Roland LaStarza, Archie Moore, and Ezzard Charles were all rated #1 contenders when Marciano fought them (see Ring Magazine: October 1953, August 1954 and August 1955 issues).

Yes, Joe Louis was past his prime when Marciano beat him, but he was still ranked #2 contender with Marciano ranked #3 (see Ring Magazine: August 1951 issue). Louis had only lost one fight in ten years.

And Marciano convincingly defeated his opponents, he wasn't given gifts like Valuev was with Donald.

You're kidding, right? Rocky padded his record MORE than Valuev has.

What's the deal with Valuev's relationship to promoter Don King? Has King's options to promote Nico run out yet?

I can't respect a guy who robbed two fighter in Donald and Ruiz and then disgraces the heavweight division even more by defending them against Beck, Monte "two guns" Barrett, and Jameel "Big Time" McCline. Even though Chagaev is a step up he needs to even make an attempt at unifying before I will give him some credit.

Not sure on that one, but what I've read is that they (Valuev and his camp) want as little to do with King as possible.
