Do people dislike Wlad because he's too easy to like?

It's been established that Whites can play Basketball. The 3 point shooting champion for the past 2 seasons has been a White guy. The MVP was a White guy the last 2 years.....and it's going to be a White guy this year.

There aren't really that many outstanding White boys in Boxing. Plain and simple. The lower weights are dominated by Mexicans...and the upper weights by Blacks.

Is he like that catchy super poppy song (hypothetically speaking; you can probably pick whatever is #1 on the charts) on the radio that most hardcore music connoisseurs hate just because it's catchy and popular? I feel, for me personally, it's impossible to hate Wlad. Not only does he seem like a great guy who's handsome and a draw with the ladies, he gives a great interview, makes for exciting fights, and even has some pretty distinct flaws which make him even more human and easier to sympathize with.

Is there a more likeable guy in boxing? Maybe Emmanual Augustus but he isn't as high profile a name.

I think people dislike Wlad because his fans are so obsessive over him, feel like hes invincible, think hes the greatest person in boxing, and just overall hug on his nuts.
I dont think people dislike Wlad the guy, but Wlad's fans, which in turn, makes them dislike Wlad.

Wlad is one of the three or four greatest things ever to happen to this sport. He's a freak of nature. He's classy, honest, brilliant. Sometimes people say athletes are 'articu;ate', which means only that they can speak in intelligible sentences. Wlad is more than that, he's intelligent, and he's educated. he has a ****ing PhD for Christ's sake. And he's a humanitarian. he's politically conscious. He's done more for the people of the world than any athlete has.

Europeans should love him, Americans should love. He's cosmopolitan. He might have an accent in English but it's his FOURTH language, and he still talks better than any other boxer out there (taking coherence and vocabulary into account); and he speaks German better than 98% of non-Germans who have tried; that ain't easy

Whites should love him, blacks should love him (he's done more for black people who need help than any black athlete EVER has).


And he can do magic tricks.


In sum, if you don't like Wlad there's something wrong with YOU.

Ok thanks Knives I was wondering what Yanks though of a polite white Canadian guy domintaing the NBA..
I remember the BIRD JORDAN debates ..It was always Byrd is so intelligent.. and Jordan is a Natural.. which I found Kinda racist.. at least that was the white point of veiw.. I thought Jordan was Greater than Bird could ever dream of being.. Bird might have had the name But Jordan could fly

That isn't true anymore though. Ten years ago sure, but things are changing fast. Whites have really begun to take over the HW's, and there is a 2nd wave of young easter europeans on the way and likely more after that. This isn't a passing trend, but the begining of an eastern european takover.

People aren't used to it because it's a recent development but in another 10-15 years it will just be assumed that eastern europeans naturally dominate heavyweight boxing (the only division casual sports fan care about anyway).

Who equates boxing with latin americans or asians? Most of us hardcore fans, since we're in the know, but to the casual sports fan, the connection doesn't really stick because they don't follow the little guys. They think black when they think boxing, because Tyson and Holyfield and Lewis were black.

Now with the HW division changing hands, boxing is going to have a white "face" once again IMO. The HW's are the glamour division, they are the ones in the spotlight, so regardless of what's going on in the smaller weight divisions, when 8/10 heavyweight contenders are eastern europeans, that is how the casual fans will view boxing.

That just goes to show you the racist truth to boxing. White people are only marketed as a ploy and nobody since has expected there to be a legitimate White Champ. Samuel L Jackson refers to Gerry Cooney as "A White Boy with a Jab that Couldn't break Wind"

If you ask someone about Tommy "Tommy Gun" Morrison....they'll say: "Oh that White boy from the Rocky movie that tried boxing and got knocked out by Lennox Lewis?"

No, there are really no outstanding White fighters outside of Wlad, Joe Calzaghe, and Ricky Hatton. Pavlik has some improving to do.

But part of what make Bird so great is that he wasnt so natural and athletic like Jordan was.
Yet he put 110% into every play of every game.
Had a beautiful shot and was on of the most clutch players in the history of the sport.
