JC Chavez Jr. the next Tito Trinidad

You're absolutely right. Tito is my second-favorite fighter of all time, right behind Ricardo "finito" Lopez, and just a smidge ahead of Miguel Cotto. I grew up in Puerto Rico idolizing Tito and I've seen almost every one of his fights, dating back to the four rounders he had in the El San Juan Hotel when he used to fight at 140 pounds.
I remember Tito when he was young like JC Junior and their styles are very similar. Of course, Tito grew into more of a puncher and less of a boxer and he lost some of his defense along the way. Tito used to have great footwork, an awesome jab, and a severly underrated defense. He fell in love with his power, tho, and tended to drop his hands a bit too much and not to move side-to-side as much as he did in the earlier days.
Junior has a left hook with authority, just like Tito had. When Tito was 20, he had already been a pro for 3 years and had plenty of amateur experience. Junior had no amateur experience so I cut him a little slack there.Comment

I really don't understand all the hate for people who want to fight less than caliber opponents in the beginning of their career.
Boxers in the past gets so much praise for coming out with 250-17 records and lots of fans say that modern boxers will never be as good as past boxers because they don't fight that many fights.... So I don't understand what is wrong with a fighter who wants to add fighters to his name. You think Willie Pep fought A class opponents throughout his whole career? I think not. I commend Chavez Jr. for what he is trying to do. If he were to come out with 120-3 with champion belts then he would be thought of as a great just like the pedestal that boxers of old have.Comment

Just cuz this kid wears boxing glove, he's tall, skinny and has a Spanish last name does not make him similar to Tito. Come on man, are you serious. This thread is ******. Tito has a very unique and aggressive style. He's always up on his rear toes and puches with murderous intent with every punch. This kid does not compare or fight like Tito, nuff said.Comment

pr put down the bong pipe.Yup, that's right, I said it. Junior has reminded me of Tito for a while now and I just watched his fight from last night and it hit me yet again. His style is almost identical to that of the great Puerto Rican champion even though Junior never had an amateur career.
He's growing fast, tho. He weighed in at 151.25 for last night's fight so it might be really hard for him to stay at welterweight long (he started his career at 130 just three and a half years ago).
I give Jr about 2-3 more fights before he steps it up to a known guy. Seeing as he's probably going to be fighting at Welterweight, he might fight someone like Sharmba, Klose, Urkal, Cosme Rivera, or Mark Suarez.
Keep your eye out for this kid.
this guy... look at the win record of the last 6 fights of his opponents.
man, imo your misconcieving .
but i can understand . shoot i backed mosley during his nixon years.Last edited by STEELHEAD; 03-14-2007, 12:05 AM.Comment
