I don't know what's your basis on naming Hearns because the guy is always living under the shadow of SRL's name even up to this point.

So I'll say nah probably not.

I thought someone like george foreman, jack johnson or felix trinidad would be the most popular pick in this debate. On this thread it seem like ali is, damn you guys keep getting dumber as the days go by.

oooh, considering Spinks is one of the best LH in history, wasn't old, never been knocked down or defeated, what does that say about Rocky Marciano?

But, I agree. Tyson is a bit overrated based on a short spurt of "Greatness", Mike Tyson's punchout, the media of the 80's, and of course, he was entertaining as mother ****a.

Tyson also never fought a Heavyweight "Great" in his prime. His burning out before doing so is a blow on his resume/legacy.

Tyson had "It", but he didn't want it after he finished what he set out to do.

If Tyson is overrated, I would say he is overrated in his willingness to want to make boxing a career. Even with "Team Tyson" (D'amato, Jacobs, Cayton, Rooney), Tyson would have had to retire sometime before 30, but I think they knew that.

I don't buy into the notion that he couldn't have been beaten when with Rooney . I would say that Ali and Foreman (in a fantasy match) had the best chance to beat him when Mike was "Iron Mike."

                  .................................................. ..................

For other overrated fighters, there are to many to choose from.

Anyone who has Ali listed really doesn't know what they're talking about.

I don't really even feel like getting into it. Put it this way real simply- if Roy Jones had the balls and desire of Ali then he would have traveled to Germany and stopped Michalczewski, traveled to the UK and taken out Eubanks, Collins and Benn, and then rematched Toney just for fun, fought Jirov and stopped him, and then taken out Hopkins again no matter what the cut.

Ali's willingness to fight top fighters, to be a true WORLD champion (which is so misunderstood these days) and literally fight anyone, anywhere, with the level of success he had, should make anyone a-****ing-shamed for even insinuating that he should be a top an "overrated" list. It's just silly.

But I dont understand where he's got his legendary status from. He was stopped twice, once in his prime and his best win was over Zab, a great win for sure but does it really allow him the status he has?

I wish I wasnt posting this!
I like Tszyu but I agree. The guy never fought Vince in a rematch. He never moved up to 147 to fight Oscar, Shane, Tito, and Forrest.

Ricky Hatton is overrated with his victory over a fighter that was 35, inactive for a few years from injuries, and had been declining since he went into his
                      30's.
Ricky didn't even outbox him, just hugged it out until the old man was exhausted; which he clearly was by the 5th.

I'll give Kostya credit for Zab: Zab was a very good fighter before he met Tszyu. After Tszyu, Zab would never be the same mentally.
