Actually it's called consuming more calories then you burn. If you don't want to lose muscle then you eat your ass off, clean food that is. If your trying to move up a class, then you lift weights while eating clean. It sounds like your overestimating the amount of cardio and calories lost by doing roadwork, sparring and other bag work. I never lost any muscle during my boxing training, nor did anyone else that I was working out with daily. I did however lose fat, and my bodyfat percentage dropped to 6-7%. You want to know how I maintained the muscle mass? That's right! you guess it! eating clean food.
